How to Clear Settings on Honeywell Thermostat RTH9580WF

Clearing out all customization settings such as Wi-Fi and schedules, lock screen passwords, and restoring the Honeywell RTH9580WF Touchscreen Thermostat to factory default condition, is accomplished with the instructions below. This procedure is recommended when troubleshooting intelligent thermostats, to rule out the possibility that corrupted settings could be causing the thermostat to malfunction. Keep in mind however, that after doing this, this smart thermostat forgets any programmed settings. So you’ll have to enter your WiFi network information again. Also, any custom tailored program schedules you’ve entered are deleted, returning the thermostat to the useful, but not necessarily desirable, daily heating and cooling schedules. So again, you may need to adjust them again according to your specific requirements, if you have any.

Prior to Clearing Thermostat Settings

Before clearing all settings and restoring to factory default values, gather your thermostat’s manual that shipped with it. Or, you can find it online at Honeywell’s web site.

Write down the current daily program schedule currently stored in the thermostat if you’ve changed it from the default schedule.

Then, run down through the menus in the thermostat, and record any parameters that you’ve modified that alter the thermostat to your specific heating / cooling apparatus. These include filter-change reminder settings, WiFi network connection information, System Type, Thermostat Name, location, et al.

Get help from a climate control technician if you’re not sure.
