7 Day Programmable Thermostat Reviews

We’ve written reviews several 7 Day programmable thermostat units.

7 Day Programmable Thermostat Intro

True 7-Day Thermostats

We prefer the TRUE 7 day thermostats.  Why?  Because with these, you can program each day of the week separately from the other days.  Such better models include the Honeywell  9000 wireless model, the RTH7600D wired version, and the RTH8580WF WiFi thermostat.

But then others, disallow such detailed setting.  These include models like the Honeywell RLV430A for electric heating.  This line voltage thermostat forces you to program the days in a 5 – 2 grouping.  5 for the five weekdays, and 2 for the two weekend days.  You program all the week days for one set of times and temps, and the weekend days for another set.

5-2 Thermostats

The 5 – 2 variety of the 7 day programmable thermostat forbids separate day programming.  No setting temps for each weekday or each weekend day.  That is, you can’t program Saturday to warm to 70 degrees while setting the Sunday temp to 68 degrees.  Thus, Saturday and Sunday temperatures must be the same in these models.  The temps for all weekdays are the same setting too.  So, you can program only two groups of days; weekdays and weekends, not separate days.  Overall though, 7 day programmable thermostats give better control over your energy costs than non scheduling models.

7-Day Thermostat Energy Savings

Companies that make these 7 day programmable thermostats say that these units lower heating and cooling bills when used correctly.  But our gas bill did not drop after switching to one.  Why?  Perhaps because the weather was colder from one year to the next.  Or, because gas prices changed.  We will  use them for a few more years though, to see how much we saved.  But, it’s good that the furnace is not running a lot while we’re away.

Anyway, here is a list of our reviews of 7 day programmable thermostat units.
