Check Battery on JBL Wonderboom 2

Covers the Check Battery on JBL Wonderboom 2 procedure, to tell if the battery life is shortening over time.

Check Battery on JBL Wonderboom 2: Step by Step

1. First, Turn ON the JBL Wonderboom 2

You won’t be able to read battery charge status unless the 2 is ON.

Top view of the JBL Wonderboom 2, powered ON. Showing the white glowing -Power-button.

To turn on the unit, press and release the Power button, pointed at by the yellow arrow last picture.

The little lamp in that button should then come on, and the JBL Wonderboom 2 should make its startup sound.  If it does not, then the battery could be completely dead.

But as long as there’s some juice in the battery, the 2 should power up.  When it does, move on to the next step.

2. Press and Release the Volume UP and Volume DOWN Buttons Together to Check Battery State

Press and release the center areas of the Volume UP and Volume DOWN buttons at the same time.  Find these areas circled in yellow, in the next picture.

The -Volume UP- and -Volume DOWN- buttons.

When you press these buttons together, the JBL Wonderboom 2 makes one to four “blunk” sounds to tell you how full the battery is.  Four blunks means that the battery has between 75 and 100 percent charge.  Three blunks means that the battery has between 50 and 75 percent charge.  Two blunks says that you have between 25 and 50 percent charge in the speaker’s battery.  And finally, one blunk means between 0 and 25 percent charge.

Also, when the battery gets critically low, the Power lamp starts flashing red.

Press these buttons any time the 2 is ON, to check how full the battery is.  The number of blunks you hear, lets you roughly guess how much time you have left to play the 2, before it goes dead.  Now a fully charged Ultimate Ears JBL Wonderboom 2 plays for roughly thirteen hours.  So four blunks means that the 2 has between 9.75 and 13 hours of play time left before it goes dead.  Three blunks means that it will play for another 6.5 to 9.75 hours.  Two blunks means between 3.25 and 6.5 hours of music time left.  And 1 blunk means that you’ll get between 0 and 3.5 more hours of play time.

How Much Charge It Holds

When the 2 is new, and using a full power USB charger, the Ultimate Ears JBL Wonderboom 2 charge time is 2.6 hours to reach a full charge.

And, the fully charged battery should last for around 13 hours of play time before going dead.

A sign of a bad battery, is that it goes dead too fast, or takes too little or too much time to fully charge. So if you fully charge your JBL Wonderboom 2, but it only plays for under ten hours before dying, its battery may be bad, and unable to hold a full charge anymore.

If the Ultimate Ears JBL Wonderboom 2 battery takes longer than three hours to completely recharge, this could also mean a failing battery.  It could mean too that the charger you’re using is not strong enough to recharge the 2 in the specified charge time of 2.6 hours.

Also, slow charging can happen because your charge cord is too thin.  So for best results, we suggest using a full-current USB 2.0 cable (one that easily carries 2.1 amps).
