Google Home Power Supply

We discuss the US version of the Google Home power supply for the first Google Home smart speaker below.  Firstly, this supply has non folding AC prongs.   Plus, its flat “ribbon” cord is six feet long, and very durable.  Moreover, this supply is lightweight for its 33 watt power output capacity.

Furthermore, It’s a typical cube shape.  Yet it’s unimposing width and height ease fitting into standard power strips.

Moreover, this supply silently delivers that 33 watts of energy to this first offering in the Google Home line of intelligent talking speakers.  This AC supply delivers I.T.E. levels of good regulation. So this supports that deep bass and dynamic range of the speaker.  Plus, this well-regulated power source supports reliable operation — never crashes.

Therefore, we conclude that this is by no stretch a penny pincher cord. Indeed, the supply seems well built, though permanently sealed. Further, it runs with little heating, even at higher speaker output volumes. Also, it emits little  RFI and EMI. So, while not easily fixed, you’ll likely never need to fix it.  Why?  Because it’s highly reliable.  Finally, the low cost to replace this supply makes trying to fix it a waste of time these days.

Now the DC output jack, the metal barrel part, is small.  That is, it’s roughly 10 mm long, with an outer size of 4 mm. Furthermore, they set the barrel itself at a right angle to the cable. Why?  Because this allows proper fitting into the bottom of the speaker, shown below.

The size of the positive lead hole at the top of the barrel jack is roughly 3 mm. They tailored the right-angle DC plug not to stick out from the bottom of the speaker, allowing the speaker to sit flat.
