Here we explain how to charge / recharge the JBL Boombox portable BT speaker. Recharge it by way of its hidden DC input charging port in the back of the unit.
In short, first, we suggest that you recharge the Boombox with the included charger from JBL. Why? Because this charger meets the speaker’s electrical needs and is in fact, as verified by JBL. Indeed, JBL must feel that this is a well-matched charger since they include it with the speaker. So, we would not use any cheaper grade charger here. But we admit that in a pinch, you could recharge the speaker with other non JBL wall chargers. But we won’t detail those options here.
It’s time to charge the Boombox when the battery status meter shows a single flashing red light.
When you see that red lamp, connect the black barrel DC output jack included with the speaker. Then, plug the adapter into a working wall outlet to recharge the JBL Boombox to full.
Finally after six and a half hours, your JBL Boombox fully recharges. Then, you’ll be able to play it again for roughly 24 hours before you have to charge it again.
As we said above, we use the JBL wall charger AC adapter included with the speaker, as shown next.
Find the connections port door on the back of the Boombox as shown next.
Pry open the port cover, pulling the door out toward you and then down. This exposes the DC input charging port inside, as shown next.
Then, plug the barrel end into the matching DC input port on the speaker.
So next, connect the charger to a working AC outlet.
At least one of the battery status lamps lights up on the Boombox when you apply DC input power. There are five lamps on this speaker that light in succession as internal battery charging progresses.
Battery recharge is almost complete when all but the last of the battery gauge lamps glow solid. The last one keeps blinking for several minutes more to top off the charge, as shown next.
The battery charge cycle wraps up when all battery status gauge lights go off, as shown next.
Note that unless this power port opening flap makes a good seal, water could seep into the connector ports. Then, this could likely damage the speaker. Thus take special care to properly seat the port door.
See how this port door looks when fully closed and sealed in the next picture.
We have now fully charged our BT speaker. Note that the battery charge meter just after turning on the Boombox after a full recharge. All lamps glow, meaning that the battery is now in full charge state, as shown in the next picture.
Repeat recharging every twenty-four hours of music play, to keep the battery in good shape. In fact, we charge ours when the battery status gauge lights show just one lamp glowing. Then too, we do so right away.
An aging speaker battery may cause this. Why? Because the battery can no longer deliver the minimum current the Boombox needs to function well. So replacing the battery often fixes this issue. We suggest though, to check with a qualified technician to install a new battery.
The Boombox fully recharges in between six and seven hours, depending on the state of the battery when charging starts. This assumes that you use the charger that comes with the speaker. Other wall chargers may take longer to fully recharge this unit.
No you cannot, and further, such attempts could destroy the speaker innards.
