Covers how to check battery life on the Sony SRS XB13 Bluetooth speaker. Plus we explain how to know if the battery life is gradually shortening over time.
You won’t be able to read battery charge status unless the speaker is ON.
To turn on the speaker, press and release the Power button. Find it at the far left on the button panel.
The little lamp right above the Power button should then light up green. And the speaker may make a two-beep sound if it pairs to a device. If it does not turn on, then the battery could be completely dead.
But as long as there’s some juice in the battery, the speaker should power up. Then when it does, move ahead to the next step.
Note that this speaker has no battery gauge to tell exactly how much charge remains. But you can see if the battery is on the verge of going dead. For this, read the CHARGE lamp. When the battery is not very low, this lamp is dark. That’s true even when the speaker is running. But when little charge remains, the CHARGE lamp flashes orange.
E.g. The next picture shows the lamp location, just below and to the left of the Power button.
When the speaker is new, the recharge time is about four and a half (4.5) hours.
And the battery should last for around sixteen (16) hours of medium volume play before going dead. Or at loudest volume, you might see five (5) playing hours per full charge.
A sign of a bad battery, is that it goes dead too fast. Also, it takes too little or too much time to fully charge. So if you fully charge your speaker, but it only plays for under twelve hours, its battery may fading.
If the SRS XB13 battery takes longer than six hours to completely recharge, this could also mean a failing battery. It might mean also, that your charger is not hefty enough. So it cannot recharge the speaker in the 4.5 hours spec time. Test this by using a different charger.
Also, longer charging times might happen because your cable is too thin. So for best results, we advise you use a full-current USB cord (one that carries 2.1 amps).
