How to Factory Reset Sony XG 500

Shows how to factory reset the Sony XG 500 wireless tabletop speaker back to its default settings. E.g. Resetting returns sound mode and light settings to their fresh-out-of-the-box values.  Plus, factory resetting erases any earlier connected Bluetooth devices from memory. This stops this unit from auto pairing to any nearby wireless devices. Moreover, you might do this to get this speaker ready for sale or re-gifting, or just to stop it from pairing with devices you no longer wish it to connect with.

How to Factory Reset Sony XG 500, Step by Step Guide

1. Turn the Speaker ON

Press and release the Power button for a half-second or so. E.g. Find the Power button as shown in the next picture.

The XG 500 may make a ding-dong tone sound when it powers up, if it pairs to a nearby device. Or it may make no sound at all if it doesn’t.  But whether paired or not though, this reset to default state routine works the same way, as follows.

2. Press and Hold the Play-Pause and Mega Bass Buttons At the Same Time

Find these buttons as shown next.  Both of them are in the top button panel.

Hold these in until the speaker shuts off, and all lights go dark.

After nearly 6 seconds, the XG 500 powers down, and the status lamp and party lights (if enabled) all go dark, as shown next. Note that on this speaker, there is no power-off sound.

3. Check that the Factory Reset of the Sony XG 500 Was Indeed Successful

Next, power on the speaker again, as detailed in step 1 above.

Note that after factory reset, this speaker comes up in discovery mode. The Bluetooth Status lamp blinks blue in a pulse-pulse-pause-pulse-pulse-pause sequence, to let you know this. E.g. See this in the next picture.

This is a signal that you may then look for this speaker on a nearby BT device, and pair to it if you so desire.

4. Done with How to Factory Reset Sony XG 500 !

The factory reset is now finished. Thus you may now safely sell or gift this speaker, or pair it again with your Bluetooth devices.

Keep in mind that after a factory reset, the XG 500 no longer automatically connects with any previously paired BT device. Thus, to set up auto pairing again, you first manually pair this speaker with a device. Then following that, any time that both speaker and device have Bluetooth turned on, and they’re near each other, pairing will automatically take place once more.
