How to Hard Reset Sony SRS XB01

Show you how to hard reset your Sony SRS XB01 ultra portable Bluetooth speaker to its default factory settings. Hard resetting restores the XB01 to factory default state. Plus, it makes the unit forget any earlier paired BT devices. Clearing these entries halts this speaker from pairing to any in-range Bluetooth devices that it had paired with before the hard reset. Also, you might hard reset this speaker to get it ready for sale or re-gifting, or to stop it from pairing with devices you no longer wish it to sync with.

How to Hard Reset Sony SRS XB01, Step by Step

1. Turn the Speaker ON

Press and release the Power button for a half-second or so. Find the Power button as shown in the next picture.

The speaker might make a ding-dong beep sound when it powers up, if it pairs with a nearby Bluetooth device.  If it does not connect however, then it makes no sound when booting. Still, whether it pairs or not, this reset routine works the same, as we detail next.

2. Press and Hold the Volume DOWN , Volume UP, and Power Buttons at the Same Time

All three of these buttons we find on the top of the speaker, near the front edge, as called out in the next picture.

The XB01 then enters hard reset mode after a a couple seconds.

Then the speaker powers OFF, and the status lamp goes OFF, as shown next. Note that on this speaker, there is no power-off sound.

3. Check that your Sony SRS XB01 Did Indeed Hard Reset

Next, power on the XB01 again, as described in step 1 above.

Note that after a hard reset, this speaker comes up in pairing mode. The Status lamp blinks blue rapidly to tell you this.  This is a signal for you to look for this speaker on a nearby BT device, and pair to it if you so desire.

4. Done with How to Hard Reset Sony SRS XB01 !

The hard reset is now finished. So you may now sell or gift the unit, or pair it again with your usual Bluetooth devices.

Note that after a hard reset, the speaker no longer automatically connects with any previously paired Bluetooth device. Thus, to restore this auto pairing, you manually connect the XB01 with a device. Then after that, any time that both speaker and that device have Bluetooth turned on, and they’re in range of one another, pairing automatically occurs once again.
