How to Tell if JBL Charge 4 is Charging

How to tell if JBL Charge 4 is charging?  Well, this portable speaker with power bank has a lone row of small LED lamps. Find these across the front its pedestal.  These lights display battery charge level status. So to tell if this speaker is recharging, look at these. Looking at this gauge is the best way how to tell that the JBL Charge 4 is indeed charging.

How to Tell if JBL Charge 4 is Charging: Step by Step

Connect the Speaker to AC Power

Obviously, you can be sure that this speaker is NOT recharging when no cord is plugge.

Check the Battery Status Lamps

There are five lamps that light in succession as the battery charging progresses.  You can tell if the JBL Charge 4 is charging if you see one of these lamps flashing white.  When the battery inside is dead, the light on the far left blinks white while taking a charge.  Then as the battery fills, that lamp switches to a steady white glow.  At that time, the next lamp to the right starts blinking white.

Also, the speaker heats up a bit during recharging as does its charger.  This warmth is an excellent way how to tell if charging is working.

When All Lamps Light Solid, Charging is Close to Finished

As speaker charging advances, more of the lamps light up solid. Also, the flashing moves further to the right, until it reaches the last lamp.  This next-in-line lighting is another indication that the JBL Charge 4 is in fact, recharging.

Note that all the lamps in the battery status meter glow as the speaker nears the end of charging.  But the last one goes on blinking for several minutes.  When one light blinks like this, this is another way that the speaker tells us that it is recharging.

The recharge cycle finishes when all charge status gauge lamps go dark. Thus, the battery is no longer recharging when all lamps are OFF. Even with the charger cord still present, no lamp glows when battery is full.  Charging stops at this point.

Finally, Unplug the Speaker and Turn it On

When you power up the JBL Charge 4, the battery gauge lights for several seconds. During that time, it shows the current charge amount in the battery.  Now if all five of these lamps light up, then this means that the speaker has a full charge.
