How to Turn Off Lights on Sony SRS XP500

This speaker comes equipped with a set of party LED lights that, by default, blink, scan, and pulsate in all sorts of colors to the beat of whatever you play on the speaker.  But now and then, you may not wish to have a party atmosphere in your room, like when you want to play the speaker while drifting off to sleep or during the day in a bright area, where you can’t see the lights anyhow. So we show here how to turn off the Sony SRS XP500 lights for just these circumstances.

To turn off the party lights, you need to find the LIGHT button.  We find this control on the back of the speaker, outside and just above the ports compartment, as we see in the next picture.  There are three buttons running horizontally above the ports door.  The LIGHT button is the last button on the right.

How to Turn Sony SRS XP500 Party Lights OFF Using Speaker Buttons, Step by Step

These lamps, which light the top and bottom front edges of the unit are set to display their party show by default.

They work either when fresh out of the box, or after a factory reset. You can turn them off as follows…

    1. Turn the party LEDs off by pressing and releasing the LIGHT button.  Doing so may save a bit of battery power, especially when you don’t really need to waste any on running these lamps. E.g. Like when playing the speaker in daylight or in a bright room where the lights would be harder to see anyway. The lights immediately go dark after the button press.

Then when you want to turn them back on again, simply repeat what you did above.  I.e. Press and release the  LIGHT  button. Then the party lamps will go back to their usual pulsing and fading color changes.
