How to Turn Off Sony SRS XB41

We explain how to turn off the Sony SRS XB41 stereo BT speaker here.  Now most speakers have a Power button that Sony orients on the unit such that it’s easy to find.  Indeed, this speaker is no exception to this, as we see its Power button near the bottom in the button panel. See this next.

There’s also a status lamp, just above the Power button, that glows white as long as the speaker is ON, but goes gray when you turn off the speaker.

E.g. We point out this lamp in the next picture.

And when you turn off the XB41, this lightgoes OFF, as we see next.

How to Turn Off Sony SRS XB41

To power down this portable speaker, press the Power button. Then release after a quarter second or so.  Also, you needn’t keep holding it in for too long for the unit to recognize your press and then take itself down.

When the speaker goes OFF, all lamps on it go off as well, except for possibly the orange CHARGE lamp in the back. See this in the next picture.

This light remains lit up when the speaker is recharging, whether the speaker itself is ON or OFF. Note that the CHARGE lamp does not indicate speaker power state. But it does go out when the battery reaches full charge or you disconnect the charger from the speaker. Indeed it should never glow when the speaker is OFF and you have no charger connected.

Moreover, this speaker plays no sound as it shuts OFF, although if it is playing music, that will stop right away.

But if pressing the Power button does not turn off the speaker, you can try resetting it. Please see our  How to Reset Sony SRS XB41 Wireless Speaker  for details.

And if the factory resetting doesn’t address the problem, you can disconnect the speaker from your charger, and let it run dead.  Then it will certainly shut off. Then at that point, and hopefully as you recharge it, the Power button will once again work as expected. If not though, then sadly, the speaker may be defective. So you might just have to replace it.
