There’s also a status lamp on the top. And this starts glowing or flashing when the speaker powers up.

And when the unit is running, this lamp glows white or red. Or it flashes depending on what’s going on in the speaker.

How to Turn On JBL Clip 4: The Details

To power up this speaker, press the Power button. Then release after a quarter second or so.  Moreover, you needn’t hold it in long for the unit to read your press.

When the speaker comes on, the status lamp starts glowing or blinking. Then the unit makes the signature guitar startup sound. After that, it is ready to pair and play.

But pressing the Power button may not turn on the speaker. Or the status light blinks red without the speaker coming on. So you probably need to charge the speaker.  So connect a USB-C charger to it.

Yes, you can indeed play the speaker as it charges.

Now with a charger present, this speaker should always power on when you click the Power button.  If not, then it may be getting no juice from the adapter.  So check that the AC outlet is live and that the adapter works. Also verify that the charge cable works, and that the USB-C plug fully seats in the speaker’s USB port. Also, you might accidently have service mode, ON. Now in that  case, it will not power up unless you connect the adapter.

But if after all these checks the speaker still does not turn on, then the unit itself may be defective. This, just get a new one.
