JBL Flip 5 speaker front Panel with charge cord Plugged in.
Shows how to turn on JBL Flip 5 speaker. Now most speakers have an easy to find Power button. Indeed, this unit is no exception. So we find its dark Power button on the side button panel.
There’s also a status lamp inside that Power button. This starts glowing white when the speaker powers up.
To power up, press the Power button. Then release after a quarter second or so. Moreover, you needn’t hold it in for too long to get a response.
When the Flip 5 comes on, the status lamp glows. Then it makes an interesting guitar sound. Then it’s ready to use a couple seconds later.
Now pressing the Power button may not start up the speaker. Or the battery gauge blinks red at the press. If either of these is true, then the Flip 5 may need a recharge. So, connect the charger. And yes, you can indeed play the speaker while it charges.
Now the speaker should always power up when you click the Power button. If not, then the unit may not be getting any power. So check that charging is happening. Check your outlet, charger, and cable for correct function.
Further, you might have accidently put the Flip 5 in service mode. In that case, it will not power up without the charger. So turn this mode off. See our JBL Flip 5 Speaker Buttons Not Working post for details on how to do that.
But if the unit still does not turn on, then it may be defective. So in that case, get a new one.
