So it’s likely that JBL thinks that the speaker works well enough with the original firmware. Thus they do not offer a (perhaps) confusing and risky update routine for such a low cost speaker.
Moreover, in our tests, this Clip is still highly reliable. E.g. We encountered no bugs, lost connections, distortion, or any other unwanted behaviors. Therefore firmware updating is likely unnecessary. Thus, as far as we can tell, updating this speaker is impossible for the average consumer to perform.
Finally, a no-update option makes this speaker even easier to use and enjoy. Indeed it’s nice to see a speaker that works well, right out of the box, and will likely never need updates to fix problems. So if that’s the sort of worry-free operation you’re looking for in a Bluetooth speaker, then the JBL Clip 1 is for you. It’s a virtually zero-maintenance unit, and the only upkeep it needs is periodic cleaning, as well as to exercise the battery periodically.
