So it’s likely that JBL feels that the speaker works well enough with the original firmware. Thus they do not offer a (perhaps) confusing and complicated update procedure for this older speaker.
Moreover, in our tests, this speaker is still highly reliable. E.g. We find no bugs, lost connections, distortion, or any other undesirable behaviors. Therefore firmware update on the JBL Flip 2 is likely not necessary. Indeed, updating this speaker appears to be impossible for the average owner.
Finally, a no-update option makes the Flip 2 even easier to use. And it’s nice to see a speaker that works well, and thus, will likely never need updates. So if that’s the sort of hassle-free operation you’re looking for, then this speaker is for you. It’s a virtually zero-service model. And the only maintenance it needs is to keep it clean and to exercise the battery periodically.
