JBL Flip 3 Charge Time for a Full Recharge

You charge JBL Flip 3 Bluetooth speakers via their covered micro USB charge port. And to get the shortest charge time and fullest charge when the JBL Flip 3 runs low on battery power, be sure to use a medium to high current USB charger. Details follow.

JBL Flip 3 Charge Time: How Long to Fully Recharge

According to the specs for this speaker the time it takes to charge the JBL Flip 3 Bluetooth speaker is three hours and thirty minutes (3.5 hours), using a 5 watt charger (5 volts, 1 amp).  Charging times will get longer if you use an adapter that does not provide the power levels that the speaker wants.  E.g. You could more than double the charge time if your charger only delivers a maximum current of 500 milliamps.

How Long the JBL Flip 3 Plays Per Full Charge

On a complete charge, the Flip 3 JBL speaker can play for up to ten (10) hours, due to its 3,000 MaH, 3.7 volt lithium ion polymer battery.  But when you play it loudly, especially with extra bass, you will see somewhat shorter lasting power.  We’ve seen this Bluetooth speaker run dead in around 8 hours when played at louder volumes, especially with bassy music. So to get the longest charge time, power saving is key.  Just play it only as loudly as you must, to hear it well throughout your listening space.

The Charge Time Gets Smaller as the JBL Flip 3 Ages

If you own this speaker over a few to several years, you may notice that the time it plays from a single charge shrinks as the speaker gets older.  This is normal for devices like this one, that rely on lithium ion batteries.

But by exercising the battery, you can slow this charge fall off.

To exercise the JBL Flip 3, run the battery dead and charge it again every three to six months when not in use.

Also, we suggest that you  NOT  leave the speaker plugged into a charger once it reaches full charge.  Thus, right after the charging lamps completely go out, disconnect the speaker as soon as you can. Why?  Because this avoids overcharging it and possibly damaging the battery.
