JBL Xtreme 3 Charge Time to Fully Recharge

You charge JBL Xtreme 3 Bluetooth speaker via the USB-C charging port on the back, and to get the smallest charge time and fullest charge when the Xtreme 3 runs low on battery juice, be sure to use at least a full current USB-C charger. Details follow.

JBL Xtreme 3 Charge Time: How Long to Fully Recharge This Speaker

According to the specs for this speaker the time it takes to charge the JBL Xtreme 3 Bluetooth speaker is four (4.0) hours even, using a USB-C  charger (5, 9, 12, 15, or 20 volts at 3 amps).  Charging times will get longer if you use an adapter that does not provide the power levels that the speaker wants.  E.g. You could more than double the charge time if your charger only delivers a maximum current of 500 milliamps, or only offers the 5 volt option. You’ll likely experience the fastest charging with a charger that can deliver 20 volts at 3 amps.

How Long the JBL Xtreme 3 Plays Per Full Charge

On a complete charge, the Xtreme 3 JBL speaker can play for up to fifteen (15) hours, thanks to its 7.26 volt, 5,000 mAh, 36.3 watt-hour lithium ion polymer battery.  But when you play it loudly, especially with extra bass, you will see somewhat shorter playing time per charge.  We’ve seen this Bluetooth speaker run dead in around 10 hours when played at louder volumes, especially with bassy music. So to get the longest charge time, power saving is a must.  Just play it only as loudly as you need, to hear it well throughout your listening space.

The Charge Time Gets Smaller as the JBL Xtreme 3 Ages

If you own this speaker over a few to several years, you may realize that the time it plays from a single charge drops as the speaker gets older.  This is normal for these devices that have lithium ion batteries.

But by working out the battery, you can slow this storage capacity drop off.

To exercise the JBL Xtreme 3, run the battery dead and recharge it again every three to six months when not in use.

Also, we suggest that you  NOT  leave the speaker plugged into the charger once it hits full charge.  Thus, right after the battery status meter goes dark, disconnect the speaker as soon as you can. Why?  Because this avoids overcharging it and possibly damaging the battery.
