Pairing Logitech Wonderboom to Google

We demonstrate here Pairing Logitech Wonderboom With Google assistant devices. These Google models include the Original, Mini, and Max. Since this pairing takes place directly between the BT speaker and the Google devices, there’s no need to turn Bluetooth on in the phone / tablet used to set up this pairing.

Pairing Logitech Wonderboom to Google: Step by Step

With your UE Wonderboom powered down (power button is not lit), run through these step-by-step instructions to pair it to your Google speaker.  Note that the pairing directions are nearly the same for all Google models.

We’re using an iPad Air tablet to build this pairing. Furthermore in this demo, we’re pairing with a Mini Google.

Now, to the pairing instructions.

1. Find the Google Home App on your Tablet / Phone

We found the  Home  app on our iOS iPad Air as shown in the next shot. On our iPad, this app is on the third home screen page. It’s pointed at by the pink arrow.

Google Home App entry, as shown on the iOS home screen.

2. Run the Google App

The app displays its  Home  screen as shown in the next screenshot.

3. Scroll Down to Find the Speaker Group and Speaker to Continue with Pairing Logitech Wonderboom to Google

If you don’t see the speaker group in which the Google speaker you wish to pair belongs, then swipe up on the  Home  screen until you do.  Swiping up scrolls you down the  Home  page that lists all your Google speaker devices and groups currently set up in your Google account.

Now in this example, we’re pairing a Google Mini speaker. It’s a member of our  Office  group.  So we scrolled down the page until we saw that group and speaker, as shown next, circled in green.

The -Home- page. Showing the -Office- group.

4. Tap the Google Speaker to Link

Here, we pair our UE Wonderboom with our Google Mini, named  Office Speaker.   So we tap the picture of the Mini, seen inside the green circle above.

This displays the device home page for the selected Google speaker, as pictured next.

The main screen for -Office Speaker-. Showing the -Settings- button.

5. Tap the Device Settings Icon on the Speaker’s Main Control Screen

We call out the  Device Settings  option with the green arrow in the last screenshot.

Tapping the gear-shaped  Device Settings  button brings up the  Device Settings   screen for your chosen Google speaker, as shown in the next screenshot.

The -Device Settings- screen, top of that page.

6. Scroll Down to the Default Speaker Setting to Continue with Pairing Logitech Wonderboom to Google

Scroll down the  Device Settings  screen, until you see the  Default Speaker  item. We’ve pointed at this with a blue arrow in the next picture.

The -Device Settings- screen. Showing the -Default Speaker- item.

7. Tap the Default Speaker Item to Continue

This shows the  Choose a Default Speaker for Music and Audio   screen, as shown next.

The -Choose Default Speaker- screen. Showing the -Pair Bluetooth Speaker- item.

At this point, you’re ready to start your Google speaker scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices. You’ve selected the speaker to pair with in step 4 above. So, that speaker is the one that scans for Bluetooth devices like the UE Wonderboom.

But  HOLD ON A SECOND!  don’t press that  Pair Bluetooth Speaker  item button just yet. We must first power up your Wonderboom Logitech speaker and put it into discovery / pairing mode.

8. Switch ON the Logitech Wonderboom

Put down your mobile device for a moment, and power up the UE Wonderboom by quickly depressing and letting go of its  Power button. We circle the  Power button in green in the next picture.

The Logitech Wonderboom top view. Showing the dark -Power- button. Turn it ON before pairing to Google.

The speaker then powers up.

But since our Google Mini has never paired with the Logitech before, it has no connection information for it in its paired-previously Bluetooth devices list.  So,  the BT speaker will not yet pair with this Mini automatically.

The white glowing -Power- button.

Note that your Wonderboom’s Bluetooth button may flash fast white, if you’ve never paired it with a speaker since its last hard reset. Right after a hard reset, and before any device pairings, this speaker enters Bluetooth pairing mode by itself.  Thus, the  Bluetooth button flashes without pressing it first.  For that scenario, skip the next step and pick up with Step 10.

Now for this demo, the  Bluetooth button on our speaker does not glow, since we paired this speaker with BT streamers since the last time we reset it.  So, for illustrative reasons, we do the next step, to show you how to place the UE Wonderboom into Bluetooth pairing mode.

9. Put your Speaker into Pairing / Discovery Mode to Continue with Pairing Logitech Wonderboom to Google

Now, to allow a Google speaker to find the BT speaker, set your speaker into pairing / discovery mode. Detail: Press and release the  Bluetooth button, as shown in the next picture, circled in green.

The -Bluetooth Pairing- button. You must initiate pairing mode here before pairing the Logitech Wonderboom to Google.

When you press the  Discovery Bluetooth Mode  button, the speaker makes a repeating twice pairing ready sound. Furthermore, the  Bluetooth   button light changes from OFF or solid white, to rapidly flashing white. See this in the last picture above.

10. Go Back to your Mobile Device Again

The screen with the blue  Pair Bluetooth Speaker  option should still display, as in the next screenshot.

Back in the Google Home app. Showing the -Choose Default Speaker- screen, with the -Pair Bluetooth Speaker- item. From here is where you can pair with the UE Wonderboom.

11. Tap the Pair Bluetooth Speaker Item

This starts your Google scanning for any nearby Bluetooth devices that are themselves in Bluetooth discovery mode. Now your Logitech WB is in Bluetooth pairing mode. So your Google Mini should find it.  If it does not however, then move the speakers closer to each other and do the last step again.

The next screenshot shows the Bluetooth scanning in progress.

The -Pair Your Bluetooth Speaker- screen, while scanning for Bluetooth devices. Once you start pairing mode on the UE Wonderboom, it should then appear on this screen.

After a short pause, your Google should find the Logitech WB, and list it as shown next, as pointed at by the green arrow.  In our demo, the Mini found our BT speaker, named  WONDERBOOM.

The -Pair Your Bluetooth Speaker- page. Showing a UE Wonderboom found.

12. Tap your UE Wonderboom on the Discovered Bluetooth Devices List to Pair It

See the screenshot above. If Google found more than one speaker, then you must tap the one you want.

A blue check mark then appears on the device you chose, as shown next.

The -Pair Your Bluetooth Speaker- page. Showing a UE Wonderboom as paired, with the -Done- button highlighted.

13. Tap the Done Item

Tapping  Done brings about our speaker to pair with the Wonderboom Logitech speaker.

After pairing completes without errors, the Google Home app returns us to its  Choose a Default Speaker for Music and Audio  screen, as shown next.

The -Choose a Default Speaker- page. Showing a UE Wonderboom as now paired with Google.

Just prior to taking us back to the  Choose Default Speaker  page, speaker pairing takes place.  Then, the UE Wonderboom makes the Speaker Paired sound (a rising sort of ker-plank noise). The now-paired WB speaker is pointed at by the blue arrow.

The speaker is now paired with your Google. It’s  Bluetooth  button glows solid white briefly before going OUT to save battery power. This means that successful pairing has occurred.

14. Pairing Logitech Wonderboom to Google Done !

We can now ask the Google assistant to play media on our  Office Speaker Google Mini.  Then, that audio now plays on this bodacious sounding  Wonderboom Logitech portable speaker.

Note though that only the media you ask for actually streams through the BT speaker. The Google Assistant voice though, still speaks from the Google speaker.

Finally, be sure to direct your voice right at your Google, and not to the Bluetooth speaker, when speaking to her.  The microphone is still the mic that picks up your commands, even when paired with a speaker.
