Soft Scrub Original Cleanser Review

We’ve used the various versions of   Soft Scrub Original Cleanser   for decades, and have found it to be quite the versatile, effective but not terribly abrasive liquid cleaner.

It’s easy on the skin, emits virtually no odors or fumes, and a single bottle has enough product to keep a bathtub clean for a year or more.  Soft Scrub is a truly great product.  Details in this review below.  However, without bleach, this product is much better known for its scouring capabilities as an abrasive cleaner, than it is for its anti bacterial properties.

Soft Scrub Original Cleanser Benefits, Pros, Advantages, and Features

Versatile Bathroom Cleaner

We most use this Soft Scrub product in our small bathroom for removing soap scum and hard water deposits from bathtub, sink, and the toilet.  Soft Scrub works well at removing common bathroom dirt and scum.

Gentle, Non Intrusive Scent

Has a gentle but not overpowering aroma.  So you need not open windows or turn on exhaust fans while using it in confined spaces like our little bathroom.  Plus, the scent does not linger.  Soon after you rinse this cleaner down the drain, its smell leaves as well.

Scratches and Etches Very Little

We’ve never scratched any bathroom or kitchen surface with Soft Scrub Original Cleanser.  Yet it effectively cleaned almost every surface we used it on.

Use Rags or Sponges

Works just as well when applied with a rag as with a sponge.  We prefer a rag actually, as rags are cheaper than sponges.

Quickly Rinses Away

Rinses away completely, and quickly.  Today’s formula rinses even faster and more easily.

Excellent Pot and Pan Grime Remover.

We find that Soft Scrub works well on pots and pans too.  However, do not use it on nonstick cookware.

Easy to Find

This household cleaner is very easy to find in just about any grocery or home improvement store.

Affordable

Priced reasonably.  Haven’t purchased it lately however, as we have many bottles of it around from years past.

Virtually Eternal Shelf Life

Remains effective as long as you keep the lid tightly closed when not using the Soft Scrub. But you may have to shake up the bottle if you let it sit for too many months.

Disadvantages, Cons, Problems, and Limitations of Soft Scrub Original Cleanser

May Scratch in Some Cases

Can indeed scratch if you rub too hard while cleaning certain surfaces; particularly, soft metals.  So, rub no harder than needed. Plus, do test the surfaces to clean first. E.g. Find a non conspicuous location on said surfaces, apply a little there, and scrub.  This gives a feel for how much this cleaner will scratch or stain.

Disinfecting Properties Uncertain

We don’t know how good a disinfectant this Soft Scrub cleanser is, as it contains no bleach.  So we do not rely on it for disinfecting.  If we must clean a surface that also needs disinfecting, we follow up the Soft Scrub with some Lysol or spray bleach cleaner.  Fortunately, Soft Scrub cleanser is also available with bleach for situations like this.

Can Dry Out

With the lid not tightly closed, this product can thicken and become too dry to squeeze out of the bottle and use.  So, to head off this problem, store unused portions of it in original containers, in a cool, dry place. Further, make sure the caps are tightly screwed onto bottle heads and that the snap top lids are clean and tightly snapped shut.  Also, if it does dry up, you can reconstitute this cleaner by adding a little water and shaking the bottle.

How About a Stronger, Fresh  Scent

Our Rating on Original Soft Scrub Cleanser

We like Soft Scrub Original Cleanser, and can’t think of a day since 1980, where we’ve not kept at least one bottle around the house, ready to use.  The initial releases of this cleanser may have been somewhat more abrasive than today’s versions.  But this product, even with its dissolving, smaller scrubbing particles, still cleans effectively, and without nearly as much risk of scratching.  Today’s Soft Scrub is engineered for today’s delicate appliance surfaces.  They’ve kept up with the times, thus.  Would therefore rate this cleanser at 95 out of 100.

Where To Buy Soft Scrub Original Cleanser

Finally, look for it in the white plastic bottle with the blue label with yellow lettering, at Lowe’s, Walmart, Weis, Hometown Market, Giant Eagle Market District, or most other larger grocery centers and home stores.
