This piece gives Sony Bluetooth speaker charging instructions. Recharge these speakers easily through the micro USB or USB C power input port, on the back of most units, shown in the pictures below. Note that you can still play your Sony Bluetooth speaker while charging it up, without affecting the recharge time too much, especially when you use a higher-current USB charger.
Sony Bluetooth Speaker Charging Instructions Summary
First, Sony includes a suitable USB-A to micro USB charger cord with many of their Bluetooth speakers. But the power supply you use must be a strong enough AC or car supply to plug that lead into. Now in this demo, we’re charging the Sony SRS X11 speaker, and this particular speaker needs around 7.5 watts (5 volts at 1500 milliamps) for the shortest charge time of three (3) hours. Note that using a charger that can deliver higher charge current than this will not cut the charging time by much.
Moving on then, once you choose the charger you will use, plug it into a “live” AC outlet.
Then after a few hours, the Bluetooth speaker finishes charging. So it’s ready to play once more for up to twenty-four (24) hours before needing another charge. Note that the various Sony Bluetooth speakers have varying battery capacities. E.g. Some will play up to 10 hours per charge, while others will play much longer per recharge. The amount of play time you get depends on the particular model of Sony Bluetooth speaker you have.
Sony Bluetooth Speaker Charging Instructions, Step by Step
1. Choose a Big Enough Size AC or Car Adapter
As we said above, the power adapter you use should provide the most charging voltage and current that your speaker will accept. In this example, that is 5 volts and at least 1.5 amps (7.5 watts). So here, we use the Key Power model HDD15-3-PD USB power delivery system along with a thick-enough micro USB supply cable. Note that you may also charge this particular speaker from a PC USB port. To make sure that will work though, check your PC specs to be sure that its ports provide enough power to fully charge the speaker.
2. Find the Charge Input Port on the Speaker
Find the DC input port for charging on the back of the Sony Bluetooth speaker, just to the right of the AUDIO IN port in our demo, as we see in the next picture.
3. Power OFF the Speaker to Continue with Sony Bluetooth Speaker Charging Instructions
Note that the speaker still charges when powered ON. But depending on how much extra energy your power supply dishes out, the speaker might recharge faster when it’s not playing. It will certainly charge faster when you’re not listening at louder volumes though.
4. Plug the Power Cord into the Sony Bluetooth Speaker
Then, plug the matching end of your charging cable into the DC input port on the speaker, as we see in the next photo.
5. Plug the Other End of the Power Cable into your Charger
If the supply you use has a removable wire, then be sure to connect the matching end of the cord to the AC or car adapter you have.
6. Plug the Adapter into a Working Wall Outlet to Continue with Sony Bluetooth Speaker Charging Instructions
Now that we connected the Bluetooth speaker and our adapter, we then plug the mains end of the supply box into a working AC receptacle, as we show next. In this example, we connect ours to a GE surge protecting power strip.
The CHARGE lamp on the speaker then lights up solid orange, as we see next. Note that most models of Sony Bluetooth speaker have an orange lamp that indicates that charging is in progress when it glows. They often locate these near the DC input port inside the back panel of the speaker, or on the speaker top, near its controls.
7. Let the Speaker Continue Charging Until the CHARGE Light Goes Dark
Full battery recharging finishes when the CHARGE lamp turns off, as shown next.
8. Unplug the Charging Cable from the Speaker
If the DC input port is behind a little door, such as we find on Sony water resistant speakers, then be sure to properly snap that seal shut, in order to maintain that protection against moisture.

We have now fully charged our speaker.
Finally, repeat this charging every so many hours of play, to keep the battery in top condition for at least a few years to come. Again, how often you need to repeat the charging depends on how much you play the speaker as well as the speaker’s battery capacity.
