Sony SRS XB13 Pairing Two Speakers

Pairing two Sony SRS-XB13 Bluetooth speakers allows you to form a stereo (L + R) set.  So in this piece, we show how pairing two of this speaker lets you enjoy stereo music.  The only extra cost is that you must have two XB13s to get the stereo sound. Why? Because individually, these speakers are mono.

Sony SRS-XB13 Pairing Two Speakers: How it Works

Prepare the Speakers

    1. Start with both speakers powered OFF.
    2. Power up both speakers, and watch for the Pairing lamp to begin flashing blue on each one. If either speaker connects with a nearby Bluetooth device, you need to break that connection.  So turn off Bluetooth on the nearby BT device or shut down that device altogether.

Initiate the Pairing of Two Sony SRS-XB13 Speakers Now

    1. Press the Bluetooth / ST PAIR button on one of the speakers. Doesn’t matter which. Hold it in for around three seconds. Then release when that XB13 beeps. At this point, both the Bluetooth and ST PAIR lamps on this speaker flash. Then after five (5) seconds, the ST PAIR lamp stops flashing and glows steadily.
    2. Next, on the the second XB13, press the Bluetooth / ST PAIR button. Hold it in for approximately three (3) seconds. Then release when the  Power / Pairing and ST PAIR lamps flash.  Note that you have one minute to do this after starting Add mode on the first speaker.  Otherwise, that speaker returns to a single BT speaker configuration. Should that happens, power down both speakers. Then start over with step 1.
    3. You’ll shortly thereafter hear a beep.  Then the ST PAIR lamps on both speakers glow steadily. Plus, the Bluetooth light on the second speaker goes out. But that same light on the first speaker continues blinking. Your two speakers are now working in ST PAIR mode.

Pair your Source BT Device to this Sony SRS XB13 Stereo Pair

    1. Now connect the source device to the stereo pair set. Do this by going to the Bluetooth settings page on your source device. From there, connect to the SRS-XB13 speaker set. This set appears as “SRS-XB13”. Finally, when you make the connection, the Bluetooth light on the first speaker begins glowing steadily. Finally, you are now ready to enjoy stereo sound from your two XB13s.

Note that the speaker with the glowing Bluetooth lamp is the primary speaker in ST PAIR.  So it is the one you would work to answer a call. Also, the speakers will remain in this mode even after you turn them off. Thus when you turn one of them on again, it will try to connect with the other. And if either speaker does not find the other after one (1) minute, then they revert back to separate mode.

How to Break the Stereo Connection

To end this tethering, do as follows. While both speakers are in ST PAIR mode, press the Bluetooth button on one of them. Doesn’t matter which one. Then hold it for about three (3) seconds.

Finally, release the button when you hear a beep. The stereo pairing then ends.
