This piece gives Sony XB 43 charging instructions. Recharge this speaker easily through the USB-C power in port, behind the water resistant door in the rear of the unit, shown in the pictures below. Note that you can still play your XB 43 mini speaker during charging, without upping the recharge time very much.
First, the unit comes with a suitable USB-C charger. So use this one if you can. But if you lose yours, then be sure to pick a strong enough supply.
Then, plug your charging supply into a working AC outlet.
Then after four to five hours, your XB 43 finishes charging. So it’s ready to play once more for up to twenty-four (24) hours before needing another recharge.
The charging adapter you use should offer 5 volts and at 3 amps (15 watts) Max. Here, we use the adapter that Sony includes with this speaker. But a Key Power model HDD15-3-PD USB power delivery system along with a thicker USB-C cable also works well too.
Use a fingernail, dime, penny, or small screwdriver to work open the waterproof seal port cover on the XB 43. See the closed power port door in the next picture. Be careful not to scratch the delicate seal around the inside edge of this door.
Prying open this door exposes the USB-C charging port inside, as shown next, pointed at by the red arrow.
Note that the 43 still charges when powered ON. But depending on how much above-and-beyond recharging gusto your charger supplies, the speaker might charge somewhat faster when not running.
Then, plug the matching end of a USB-C charge cable into the port, as we see in the next shot.
Warning: Only use the USB-C port for charging the speaker. Do not use the USB-A port near the left edge in the port compartment. The larger connector is for power output only for power bank purposes. So, feeding external power into THIS port will not only fail to recharge the battery in the XB 43, but could also damage the electronics inside the speaker.
If the supply you use has a removable cord, then be sure to connect the matching end of the USB power cable to the AC or car adapter you have. Note though that the included power supply has a permanently attached cord. So skip this step if that’s the cord you have.
Now that we connected the XB 43 and our adapter, we then plug the mains end of the supply box into a working AC outlet, as shown next. We plugged ours into a surge protecting power strip.
The CHARGE lamp lights up solid orange on the speaker. And while no battery status gauge shows percentage of charge, the glowing lamp means that charging is indeed occurring, as we see next.
Full battery charging concludes when the CHARGE lamp in the speaker’s top button panel turns off, as shown next.
Note that unless you seat the port cap correctly, water may flow into its USB-C power input port. And, since water and electronics do not go well together, getting that connector wet might damage the sensitive contacts inside it. So be sure to press this door closed with enough pressure to fully seat it, for maximum moisture protection.
We have now fully charged our XB 43 speaker.
Finally, repeat this recharging every twenty-four hours of play, to keep the battery in top condition for years to come.
