Gives Sony XG500 hard reset directions to return this boombox back to its default settings. E.g. Hard resetting returns sound mode and light settings to their out-of-the-box values.  Plus, resetting erases any earlier synced Bluetooth devices from memory. This stops the speaker from auto pairing to any nearby devices. Moreover, you might do this to get this speaker ready for sale or re-gifting, or just to stop it from pairing with devices you no longer wish it to connect with.

Sony XG500 Hard Reset, Step by Step

1. Turn the Speaker ON

Press and release the Power button for a half-second or so. E.g. Find the Power button as shown in the next picture.

The -Power- button on the XG500.

Find the Power button, as we see in the last picture above.

Then, the status light comes on, as shown next.

The -Power- lamp glowing green.

The XG 500 may make a ding-dong tone sound when it powers up, should it join to a nearby device. Or it may make no sound at all if it doesn’t.  But whether or not that happens though, this hard reset routine works the same way, as follows.

2. Press and Hold the Play-Pause and Mega Bass Buttons Together

Find these buttons as we see in the next picture.  Both of them are in the top button panel.

The Play-Pause and Mega Bass buttons.

Hold these in until the speaker powers itself off, and all lights go dark.

After nearly 6 seconds, the XG500 shuts down, and the status lamp and party lights (if running) all go dark, as we see next. Note that on this speaker, there is no shutdown sound.

The dark status and Bluetooth lamps, which are dark.

3. Check that the Sony XG500 Hard Reset Worked

Next, power on the speaker once again, as we detail in step 1 above.

Note that after hard reset, the 500 comes up in discovery mode. The Bluetooth Status light blinks blue in a pulse-pulse-pause-pulse-pulse-pause sequence, to let you know this. E.g. See this in the next picture.

The Bluetooth status light blinking blue.

This is a signal that you may then look for this speaker on a nearby BT device, and pair to it if you so desire.

4. Done with Sony XG500 Hard Reset !

Reset is now complete. Thus you may now safely sell or gift this speaker. Or, pair it again with your Bluetooth devices.

Keep in mind that after hard reset, the XG500 no longer automatically connects with any prior synced BT device. Thus, to set up auto pairing again, you first manually pair this speaker with a device. Then, any time that both speaker and device have Bluetooth enabled, and they’re near each other, pairing will automatically take place once more.
