How to Tell if UE Roll is Charging

How to tell if UE Roll is charging?  This speaker has a two-color LED lamp on its back top, in the Power button. This light not only gives speaker power OFF ON status. But it also tells battery level (whether it’s near dead or not) as well as charging status.  To see if the Roll  is charging, check this light.  We show how to read it next.

How to Tell if UE Roll is Charging: Step by Step

1. Connect your Roll to USB Power

Of course, you know that this speaker is NOT charging with no charging cable plugged in.

2. Check the  Power Button LED on Speaker Back

Whether this Roll is OFF or ON, you can tell if it is charging.  If so, the Power lamp quickly pulses in a brightening and dimming pattern.

When not charging, this light glows steady  red when the battery nearly out of power.  It flashes red when the battery is critically low.  It glows solid white otherwise when the speaker is running.  The lamp is OFF when the speaker is OFF.

Should the UE Roll power lamp glow steady  red with a charger connected, then the speaker is NOT charging. Indeed you never see red during charging. But if you do, then check that your USB cable, adapter charger, and power source are working.  Try a new adapter or another charge cord.  This light should blink white to know for sure that the UE Roll is charging.

How to Tell if UE Roll is Charging Fully

As speaker charging nears the end, the power LED keeps flashing white.  You can hear how full the battery is by doing the following.

    1. Turn the speaker on.
    2. Then quickly press and release the Volume UP and Volume DOWN buttons together.
    3. The speaker then tells you how full the battery is in percentage.

The power lamp on the other hand, just shows that charging is happening.

But the Roll does not warm much as it charges. But you can feel the charger to check. If the charger heats a little, then it is putting out some current. Some current draw usually means that charging is occurring. So moderate charger heating is a good way to tell if the speaker is charging.

When the Power LED Goes Off or Turns Solid White, Then UE Roll Charging is Complete

The battery charge cycle is complete when the power LED changes from  pulsating white. It may either go dark OFF, or glow solid white.

Even with the charger cord present, when the speaker is OFF, this lamp stops glowing with a full battery. The UE Roll no longer recharges when the lamp goes dark.

Finally, Unplug the Speaker and Power it ON

If the power LED glows solid white then this could mean that it did indeed charge. But without USB power, we cannot know just how much it really did recharge. It likely did charge to full though. As long as we waited before unplugging the charger for the Power light to go dark. To know for sure, we can power up the speaker. Then press both volume controls, and hear the battery charge percentage announcement.
