How to Add Honeywell Thermostat to Google Home

In this post, we show how to add a Honeywell thermostat to Google Home smart speakers.  Now we have a Honeywell  Total Connect Comfort (TCC)  thermostat in the kitchen for several years now, and have enjoyed controlling it through the Google assistant with our voice.  So here’s what we had to do to set up the connection between Google Home and the thermostat.  Not too hard, although there are a few steps involved.  No fear though, because we list all of those steps below.

Before you Start with How to Add Honeywell Thermostat to Google Home

Create a Honeywell Total Add Comfort Account

To get started, you’ll need a TCC account.  So, if you don’t already have one, head on over to the Honeywell portal website  here,  and create one.  Be sure to save your user Id and password, as you’ll need this information when configuring the Honeywell TCC in the Google Home app below.

Since we’ve owned the Honeywell RTH9580WF WiFi thermostat, pictured next, for a few years now, we’ve already set up an account at the TCC website. Thus, we won’t go into how to do that here.  Why?  Because creating an account there is easy to do by following the instructions given there.

Get the Google Home App

The Google Home app is available in the App Store or Google Play for the respective iOS and Android mobile device platforms. You probably already have this if you’ve previously set up a Google Home speaker like the Home, Mini, or Max.

We also assume that you’ve installed and set up your Google Home smart speaker with the Google Home App on your tablet computer.  We’re using the first Google Home, as pictured next.

Link your Honeywell Thermostat to your Total Connect Comfort Account

We have the Honeywell RTH9580WF WiFi thermostat (pictured next) set up on our TCC account. It has been installed, powered up, linked to our home WiFi network, and added to our Honeywell TCC account.  Please see our   Register Honeywell WiFi Thermostat RTH9580WF Online   post for detailed instructions on getting Honeywell smart thermostats plugged into the internet.

14. Touch the  Next  Link

Tapping  Next  takes you to the   Choose a Home   page, as depicted in the next photo.  The Google Home app groups devices into virtual collections called homes.  These allow you to access various devices in each home grouping, which simplifies finding them when you have multiple home device groups.  This means that you can control smart devices at multiple locations, so long as you created a separate home for each place that has smart devices you wish to access.

Now we created only one home in our account currently.  Further, we do not need another.  So we won’t run through how to do that here.  Our only home thus, is checked by default (blue circle with a check mark inside it).  If you however, had two or more homes set up, at this point you’d have to choose which home group you wished to put the thermostat in.

Google Home app on iOS, displaying its -Choose a Home- page with the -Next- link highlighted.

In this demo though, the home group we wish to add the thermostat to, is already checked.  So we can just move on to the next step below.

15. Tap the  Next Link

Activating the  Next  link takes you to the   Where is this Device?  Page, as pictured next.

Google Home app on iOS, displaying its -Where Is This Device- screen.

Here is where  you get to say in which room or area of your home you’ve installed the thermostat.  They give several pre-defined choices on this screen.  Plus you can create your own room name if you scroll down this page.  There, they give you the option to create a custom room name.

16. Assign Your Thermostat a Room

For us though, since our Honeywell thermostat is in the kitchen, we just tapped  Kitchen, as shown next.

Google Home app on iOS, displaying its -Where Is This Device- page, with the -Kitchen- choice checked, and the -Next- link highlighted.

17. Touch the  Next  Link

Tapping  Next   takes us back to the   Home  screen.  Note that now, your thermostat should show up in your the device list given there, just as ours did, as shown next.  Remember that the first time we saw the   Home   page above, prior to setting up the Honeywell thermostat, no thermostat appeared.  But now, since adding it was successful, it does appear.
