Here we explain Amazon XXX?  This is a special Wi-Fi network that Amazon smart speakers create during setup.  The smart speaker itself becomes the access point of this network.  Then, a device running the Alexa app connects to this amazon xxx network.  Next, it sends user preferred settings to the speaker.  The smart speaker then saves them in it’s memory.  These settings include the Wi-Fi network the speaker should connect with.  Others include speaker location, speaker time zone, preferred language, and so on.   You set these in the Alexa app.

You must set up any Amazon smart speaker (orange ring or light flashing) before this wireless network appears.  Then after setup, when the orange light ring goes out, the XXX network (goes off the air too.

Note that the mobile device on which you’re running the Alexa app, must be close by.  Put it near enough to the speaker that it can “see” this network during its Wi-Fi network scan in setup.  Within ten to twenty feet is close enough.

Amazon XXX: Example

We scanned for the XXX when we set up our speakers.  The following pictures show  how that network appeared on our iPad Air tablet.  We show before and while we connected the iPad to it.

As you can see, the XXX part of Amazon XXX changes to letters that uniquely identify the speaker.  Note. This is not a unique network name across all Echo smart speakers.  But it is unique enough.  That is, you’d almost never have two devices with the same Amazon XXX name near each other.  But even if you did, you’d likely not set them up at the same time.  So the chances of any Wi-Fi network name clashes are quite low.  Finally, you could get around any name clashes easily.  Just turn off one speaker until you finish setting up the other.  In fact, you don’t even have to turn the speaker off.  Just don’t ever put both speakers in setup mode at the same time when they’re near to each other.
