JBL Charge 5 Bluetooth speaker, front right view.
To avoid the JBL Charge 5 reset not working problem, we explain the correct way to do it below.
Reset may not work due to one or more of the following.
With the JBL Charge 5 running, press the buttons we give below. When it works, reset restores default settings.
If reset is still not working, the make sure the 5 is not in either Service or Lock modes. See our JBL Charge 5 Service Mode or JBL Charge 5 Lock Mode posts. These describe how to exit each of these modes.
In this case, you’ll see no lights glowing on the 5. Nor will it power up. So to fix reset, connect the charger. Then wait a few minutes for the battery to build up a bit of reserve power. Then try the reset again, as we describe it below.
If you try all the solutions above, then your speaker may be defective. This could mean that reset is not possible. So in that case, either repair or replace the 5.
Moreover, resetting the 5 clears out any earlier paired Bluetooth devices from memory. Plus, it stops the unit from pairing to any nearby Bluetooth devices after the Reset Not Working. Also, Reset Not Working it to get the Charge 5 ready for sale or re gifting.
Press and release the Power button. It should instantly light up solid white.
Find the Power button, pointed at by the green arrow in the last picture above.
Then, the Power button lights up, as shown next. In our case, since we’ve paired the speaker with Bluetooth devices before this, it does not enter Bluetooth pairing mode. We can tell that because the Bluetooth button remains OFF, rather than blinking white. Note the dark Bluetooth button, to the right of the glowing Power button in the next picture.
The Charge 5 makes a rising electric guitar strum sound when it powers up, and is ready for use.
Find the Play-Pause and UP Volume buttons. Then press and hold them.
The Charge 5 soon enters reset.
Note the Power and Bluetooth buttons and the oval shaped ring that surrounds them. All of these light up white for a brief period during reset.
Then after a short pause, the JBL Charge 5 turns off. All lights go dark, and it makes the power-down guitar sound.
The next picture shows the speaker, powered down. All buttons are dark.
Next, power on the speaker again, as discussed in the first step above. In short, press and release the Power button.
Now this time, after reset, the speaker should instantly come up in Bluetooth discovery mode. We did not have to press the Bluetooth button first. Note that the Bluetooth button blinks to let you know that pairing / discovery mode is active. But when this button blinks or is dark, the speaker is not in a pairing session. Indeed, we expect it not to pair to anything after reset.
Solving the JBL Charge 5 reset not working issue is now complete. Thus you may now pack the speaker up for sale, or pair it again with your favorite wireless devices.
Now as noted prior, the speaker no longer auto pairs with any device. So you need to forget the previously paired Charge 5 in the source device. Then you manually pair the Charge 5 with that device again if you wish. Finally, after that, any time that both speaker and that device are in range, auto pairing happens once more.
