This post explains how to pair a common Sony speaker like the SRS Extra Bass portable series, with an iPhone or other smart device.
With your speaker powered off (status lamp is dark), run through this routine to pair it to your iPhone mobile device.
First off, press the Home button to get to the iPhone’s Home screen.
We found ours on the second page of the Home screen, as shown next.
Thirdly, tap the Settings app icon.
The iPhone then displays the first page of its settings, as shown in the next step.
The Bluetooth settings screen displays as follows. Note that our Bluetooth is enabled here. But since our BT speaker is currently powered OFF and so, not in discovery mode, it does not appear in the BT devices list. Also, we don’t see it since we’ve never paired this Sony speaker with the iPhone before, it should not appear here.
E.g. See this as shown in this list of previously paired Bluetooth devices, shown next.
Press and release the Power button to power up this speaker.
E.g. See the Power button pointed at by the green arrow in our example speaker, in the next picture.
The speaker then powers up.
But since an iPhone does not know about this speaker if never paired to it before, the Sony will not link with it automatically. The pairing status light pointed at by the arrow in the next picture may either blink fast, slow, or remain dark therefore, to denotes this not-paired state.
Now, to see your BT speaker on your iPhone, place it into Bluetooth pairing mode. On many Sony speaker models, you press and hold the Power button until you hear a couple beeps. Also, some have a status lamp that begins blinking white or blue.
See the screen shot next. We found our speaker, as pointed at by the purple arrow.
Next, tap the listed speaker in the Devices list.
Your iPhone then links with the speaker.
Then, the iPhone’s Bluetooth Settings screen then changes to look something like the following. The blue arrows show the Sony speaker now paired to iPhone.
Finally, we have now successfully linked our wireless speaker with a device like an iPhone.
