Sony SRS X5 Charging Instructions

This piece covers Sony SRS X5 Bluetooth brick style speaker charging instructions. Do this easily through the DC power in port, shown in the pictures below. Note that you can still play your X5 as it charges, without increasing the recharge time by much, as long as your charger is “hefty” enough.

Sony SRS X5 Charging Instructions, Summary

So to that end, pick a strong enough AC power adapter. We suggest using the one that comes with this speaker from Sony.

Then, insert the barrel end of the cord into the speaker and plug the charger into a working AC outlet.

Finally, after four (4) hours or so, your X5 finishes recharging.  So it’s ready to play once more for up to eight (8) hours before needing another recharge.

Sony SRS X5 Charging Instructions, Step by Step

1. Choose Correct Size AC or Car Adapter

The charger you use should provide 12.5 volts and at least 2.5 amps (31.25 watts). Here, we use the Sony AC-S125V25A charger, Now as mentioned, this speaker needs roughly two and a half amps current to recharge fully in the shortest time.  So this charger supplies the right amount of power for this job.

2. Power OFF the Unit to Continue with Sony SRS X5 Charging

Note that the SRS X5 still charges when booted.  But depending on how much above-and-beyond recharging capacity your charger offers, the speaker might charge a bit faster when powered OFF.

3. Plug the Micro USB Cord into the X5

Then, plug the small end of the cable into the port on the back of the speaker.

Now that we connected the X5 and our adapter, we then plug the mains end of the adapter into a working AC outlet, as shown next. We plugged ours into a surge protecting power strip.

The CHARGE lamp lights up solid orange on the top of the speaker. And while no battery status gauge shows percentage of charge, this glowing lamp means that charging is occurring, as shown in the last picture.

5. Let the SRS X5 Charge Until the Orange CHARGE Light Goes Dark

Full battery charging is complete when the solid glowing lamp turns off.

6. Unplug the DC Barrell Charger Cord from the Speaker

7. Done with Sony SRS X5 Charging Instructions

We have now fully charged the Sony SRS X5 speaker.

Finally, repeat this charging every eight (8) hours of use to keep the battery in top shape for years to come.
