JBL Charge 3 wireless speaker with its Bluetooth Discovery Mode button highlighted.
Shows how to connect JBL Charge 3 to typical Bluetooth devices. So these include the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad line of Apple phones and tablets. A similar procedure also works on Android devices too. These include Samsung and Google phones, as well as Amazon Fire devices.
Start with your JBL Charge 3 OFF and the power button dark. Then run through this routine to connect it to your device. We use an iPad Air tablet in this example.
Firstly, press the Home button to uncover the mobile iOS device’s Home screen.
We find ours on the second page of the iOS home screen.
Thirdly, tap the Settings app icon.
The device then displays the first page of its settings.
Our Bluetooth settings screen displays as follows. Note that our Bluetooth is ON here. But since JBL Charge 3 is currently OFF, it does not show up in the devices list. Also, we don’t see it since we’ve never connected this JBL Charge 3 with the iPad Air before.
Turn on the speaker by quickly pressing its Power button.
The speaker then powers up.
But since our iPad does not know about this speaker, the JBL Charge 3 will not connect with it automatically. The light that comes on in the power switch denotes this not-connected state. It does so by glowing solid white.
Now, to see your JBL Charge 3 on your iOS device, place it into Bluetooth discovery mode. To do that, press and release the Bluetooth button, as we show in the next picture.
When you press this button, the JBL Charge 3 makes a repeating single pluck guitar note sound several times. Also, the Power button changes from a solid white glow to flashing blue. See this next.
See the screen shot next. We find our speaker there.
Then tap the listed speaker in the Other Devices section.
Your device then pairs with the Charge 3 (“JBL Charge 3” in this demo). The iOS device’s Bluetooth Settings screen then changes to look something like the following.
Note that the JBL Charge 3 now shows as connected.
And finally, we have now successfully connected our JBL Charge 3 with our iPad iOS device. This routine also works when connecting with Apple iPhone and iPod devices. But in those cases, the screen faces may differ slightly on the iPhone.
