How to Deregister Amazon Echo Studio

You might wish to know how to deregister an Amazon Echo Studio speaker if you’re getting rid of it.  Perhaps you’re upgrading to a later model.  Or, as we did here, we bought a new Studio  for a relatve. But we forgot to mark it as a gift in our Amazon cart.  This meant that Amazon automatically registered it to our account.  Even though it should have been set up in the relative’s account.  Thus, we wanted to deregister the Alexa Studio from our account before giving it to him.  Thus, that’s what we did, as follows.

Note that this does not affect how the Echo Studio will work once registered on another Amazon account.  But deregistering unwanted speakers from your Alexa account keeps your devices list current.  Plus, it keeps the clutter of no longer valid devices low.  So, we suggest deregistering old Alexa speakers from your Amazon account now and then.

What to Do First to Prepare to Deregister Amazon Echo Studio

Set Up the Alexa App

Get to a place where you have internet access on your mobile device.

You should install and set up the Alexa App from Amazon on a mobile device.  Next, log into the app with your Amazon account credentials.  Be sure to use the same Amazon account that has the Echo Studio you wish to deregister.

Pull out your mobile device and bring up Amazon’s Alexa app.

Here, we run an iPad Air tablet. So, for this demo, we’ll show screenshots from the iPadOS version of the Alexa app.

Plus, if your Echo Studio is connected to the internet, then it will reset itself at this time, announcing this just prior to doing so, and entering Setup mode afterwards. If not, then the next time someone connects it, it should automatically reset as shown next.  If not, they’ll need to reset the unit to manually place it in Setup.
