Here we show how to factory reset your typical Sony speaker to set it back to its default settings. Factory resetting restores these speakers to default state. Plus, it erases any earlier paired Bluetooth devices from memory. Clearing these stops this speaker from pairing to any nearby Bluetooth devices. Also, you might factory reset to get it ready for sale or re-gifting, or to stop it from syncing wirelessly with devices you no longer wish it to connect with.
Press and release the Power button for a half-second or so. Find the Power button as shown in the next picture. Now in this example, we’re using an SRS XB33 speaker. But most of all the other models have similar buttons. So you’ll probably be able to use this routine no matter which model you have.
Find the Power button, as shown in the last picture above.
Then, the status light comes on, as we see next.
The speaker may make a ding-dong tone sound when it powers up and announce that it has paired, should it connect to a in-range device. Or it may make no sound at all if not, again, depending on model. But whether the unit pairs or not though, this factory reset routine works the same way, as follows.
On some speakers, this combination is the Pairing and Volume DOWN buttons, while on others, it could be the Play-Pause and Volume DOWN. On still other models, it’s the Play-Pause and Mega Bass buttons. Again, this depends on the model. And if worse comes to worst, you can try all the two or three button chords on your model to find the one that actually factory resets your speaker.
But back to our demo. Find these buttons on the XB33 as shown next. They are both on the top button panel on our test speaker, as we point out in the next picture.
The speaker then enters the factory reset process.
Next, after a few seconds, the speaker powers OFF. The status lamp goes dark, as shown next. Plus, note that on this particular speaker, there is no power-down sound. But also note that other models may make a sound.
Next, power on the speaker again, as detailed in step 1 above.
Note that after factory reset, all Sony speakers we know of come up in discovery mode. The Bluetooth lamp double blinks blue or fast flashes to let you know this.
This is a signal that you may then look for this speaker on a nearby BT device, and pair to it if you wish.
The factory reset is now complete. So you may safely sell or gift the 33, or pair it again with your favorite Bluetooth devices.
After a factory reset, the XB33 no longer automatically syncs with any previously joined Bluetooth device. Thus, to restore auto pairing, you manually connect it with a device. Then, any time that both speaker and that device have Bluetooth turned on, and they’re near to each other, pairing automatically takes place once more.
