How to Pair UE Wonderboom With Google Home

We explain here how to pair UE Wonderboom with Google Home smart speaker assistants. These Google models include the original, mini, and max versions. Now this pairing happens directly between the UE Wonderboom and the Google Home speakers. So there’s no need to turn Bluetooth on in the mobile device you’re using to set up this pairing.

How to Pair UE Wonderboom with Google Home: Intro

With your UE Wonderboom OFF, run through this step-by-step routine to pair it to your Google Home speaker.  Note that this procedure works about the same for all Google Home speaker models.

We’re using an iPad Air tablet to make this pairing. In this demo, we’re pairing with a Google Home Mini.

Now, to the directions.

How to Pair UE Wonderboom with Google Home: Step by Step

1. Find the Google Home App on your Mobile Device

We found the  Home  app on our iOS iPad Air as we see in the next shot. On our iPad, this app is on the third home screen page..

Google Home app entry, on the iOS home screen.

2. Run the Google Home App

The app displays its  Home  screen as shown in the next screenshot.

The app’s Home screen.

3. Swipe UP to Scroll Down to Find the Speaker Group you Want, as Well as the Speaker to Pair

Now you may not see the speaker group in which the Google Home you wish to pair belongs. If not, then swipe up on the  Home  screen until you do.  Doing this scrolls you down the  Home  page through all devices and groups in your Google account.

Now in this example, we’re pairing a Google Mini Home speaker. It’s a member of our  Office  group.  So we scrolled down the page until we saw that group and speaker, as shown next, circled in green.

The -Home- page, showing the -Office- group.

4. Tap the Google Speaker Device to Pair

Here,  we pair our speaker with our Google Home Mini, named  Office Speaker.   So we tap the picture of the Mini Home, seen inside the green circle above.

This puts up the main page for the selected Google speaker, as pictured next.

The main screen for -Office Speaker- showing the -Settings- button.

5. Tap the Device Settings Icon on the Speaker’s Main Control Screen

We call out the  Device Settings  option with the green arrow in the last screenshot.

Tapping the Device Settings  gear button brings up the  Device Settings   screen for the Google Home speaker you chose.

The Google Home app, showing its -Device Settings- screen.

6. Scroll Down to the Default Speaker Setting

Scroll down the  Device Settings  screen, until you see the  Default Speaker  item. We’ve pointed at this with a blue arrow in the next picture.

The -Device Settings- screen, highlighting the -Default Speaker- item.

7. Tap the Default Speaker Item to Continue with How to Pair UE Wonderboom with Google Home

This brings up the  Choose a Default Speaker for Music and Audio   screen, as shown next.

The -Choose Default Speaker- screen, showing the -Pair Bluetooth Speaker- item.

At this point, you’re ready to start your Google Home speaker scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices. You’ve selected the Home speaker to pair with in step 4 above. So, that Home Google speaker will be the one that scans for Bluetooth devices like the UE Wonderboom.

But  HOLD ON A MINUTE!  don’t press that  Pair Bluetooth Speaker  item button just yet. We must first power up your Wonderboom UE speaker and put it into discovery / pairing mode.

8. Switch On your UE Wonderboom

Put down your mobile device for a second. Then power up the UE Wonderboom by quickly depressing and releasing its  Power  button.

The UE Wonderboom top view. Showing the dark -Power- button.

The UE then powers up.

But since our Google Home Mini has never paired with this UE before, it has no connection information for it.  So,  the BT speaker will not yet pair automatically.

The white glowing -Power- button.

Note that your speaker’s Bluetooth button may fast-flash white automatically. This happens if you’ve never paired it with any device since last hard reset. Thus it automatically enters Bluetooth pairing mode.  So the  Bluetooth  button flashes without you having to press it first.  For that scenario, skip the next step and continue on with Step 10.

Now for this demo, the  Bluetooth  button on our speaker does not glow. Why not? Because we have paired this BT speaker with source devices since last reset.  So, we have to manually put this speaker into pairing mode.

9. Put your UE Wonderboom into Pairing / Discovery Mode

Now, to enable a Google Home speaker to find the UE Wonderboom, place your speaker into pairing / discovery mode. Detail: Press and release the  Bluetooth  button, as shown in the next picture, pointed at by the green arrow.

The -Bluetooth- button.

When you press the  Discovery Bluetooth Mode  button, the speaker makes a repeating twice pairing ready sound. Moreover, the  Bluetooth   button light changes from OFF or solid white, to rapidly flashing white. See this in the last picture above.

10. Grab your Mobile Device Again to Continue with How to Pair UE Wonderboom with Google Home

The screen with the blue  Pair Bluetooth Speaker  option should still display, as in the next screenshot.

The Google Home app, showing its -Choose Default Speaker- screen, with the -Pair Bluetooth Speaker- item highlighted.

11. Tap the Pair Bluetooth Speaker Item

This starts your Google Home speaker scanning for any nearby Bluetooth devices that are themselves in Bluetooth discovery mode. Now your Wonderboom UE is in Bluetooth pairing mode. So the Google Home Mini should find it.  If it does not though, then move the speakers a bit closer to each other. Tyeh repeat the last step again.

The next screenshot shows the Bluetooth scanning in progress.

The -Pair Your Bluetooth Speaker- screen, while scanning for Bluetooth devices.

After a short pause, your Google Home should find the UE Wonderboom, and list it as we see next.  Here, the Mini found our UE Wonderboom, named aptly,  WONDERBOOM.

The -Pair Your Bluetooth Speaker- page, with a UE Wonderboom speaker found.

12. Tap your UE Wonderboom Speaker on the Discovered Bluetooth Devices List to Pair It

See the screenshot above. If Google Home found more than one device, you’ll have to tap the one you want.

A blue check mark then appears beside the device you chose, as pictured next.

The -Pair Your Bluetooth Speaker- page, showing a Wonderboom UE speaker as paired, with the -Done- button highlighted.

13. Tap the Done Item to Continue with How to Pair UE Wonderboom with Google Home

Tapping  Done  triggers our Google Home speaker to then pair with the Wonderboom wireless speaker.

After pairing completes successfully, the app returns us to its  Choose a Default Speaker for Music and Audio  screen.

The -Choose a Default Speaker- page in the Google Home app, showing a UE Wonderboom chosen.

Just prior to returning us to the  Choose Default Speaker   page, speaker pairing occurs.  Then, the UE Wonderboom makes the Speaker Paired sound (a rising sort of ker-plunk sound).

At this point, the UE Wonderboom  Bluetooth  button glows solid white briefly before going OUT. This means that successful pairing has occurred.

14. Done !

We can now ask the Google Home assistant to play media on our  Office Speaker Google Home Mini.  Then, that audio now plays on this “big sounding”  Wonderboom UE portable speaker.

Note however, that only the media you ask for actually plays through the Wonderboom. The Google Assistant voice though, still plays from the Home Google speaker.

Finally, be sure speak directly to your Google Home, and not to the Wonderboom, when requesting.  The Google Home microphone is still the one that hears your commands, even when paired with a BT speaker.
