How to tell if JBL Xtreme 2 speaker is charging? Well, this Bluetooth speaker, with its BIG battery, has a group of five lights. Find these on its lower front. These LEDs display battery charging status. So perhaps the best way to tell, is to look at these lamps. We explain below how to interpret them.
Of course, you can be sure that this speaker is NOT charging with no cord connected to it.
As detailed above, the light strip indicates battery charge level. So, as recharging moves forward, at least the lowest part of the meter bar flashes white. Furthermore, when the battery is “undeniably dead,” the light at the far bottom of the strip blinks white. Then as the battery fills, that lamp changes to a steady white glow. At that time, the next lamp to the right starts blinking white.
As speaker charging moves on, more light bar parts glow solid Plus, the flashing moves further up the bar. It keeps moving upward until it reaches the top. This progressive lighting is another indication that the JBL Xtreme 2 is indeed charging.
This picture above shows the speaker just before wrapping up a charging cycle. Note that all the lamps in the battery meter glow. But the last one goes on blinking for several minutes. When one LED flashes with a charger present, this is another way that the speaker says that it is charging.
Note that this BT speaker is NOT charging, when you see a blinking red light. This means that the battery NEEDS charging. Thus, this light says that the speaker is not currently getting enough current.
Also, the battery charge cycle is complete when all battery gauge LEDs go dark, as shown next. Thus, the battery is no longer recharging when all lamps go OFF. Even with the charger cord still plugged in, no lamp glows when battery is full. Thus, the Xtreme 2 is NOT charging when the battery is full.
Also, the speaker warms a bit during charging as does its charger adapter. This warmth is a quick way how to tell if the JBL Xtreme 2 is charging.
Now during the first hour of recharge, the speaker requires the most charging current. So the adapter, in addition to heating a bit, sometimes makes screeching noises. But these usually disappear when you disconnect the charger.
As with many speakers, you get a bit more loudness when they run on AC power. So a louder speaker likely means that charging is occurring.
