JBL Clip 2 speaker, top rear view, powered on. showing the status lamp glowing blue highlighted.
The JBL Clip 2 has a single LED on its top panel, near the clip carabiner. This displays battery status. It shows whether it’s draining or charging, or whether it’s critically low or not when discharging. However, it does not tell you the charging progress. Nor does it show how full the battery is at a given time. Nor does it show how much energy the battery has left when discharging. But it does change color when the battery reaches near-dead. So in this post, we describe how to read the JBL Clip 2 battery indicator light.
When you power down the Clip 2 with no charger connected, the lamp goes dark. The lamp is also dark when the charger IS present but the battery finished charging.
The status lamp lights up red (no flashing) while the speaker charges, as shown in the next picture. On this speaker, the glowing light is the only visual indication that charging is underway. But it does not tell how far along the charging is.
Note that this lamp blinks purple and blue when the battery is very low. This means that you should recharge it soon. When you apply USB power, this red flashing light turns to a solid red when the speaker is OFF. It turns purple when it’s ON. Also note that this light never flashes red during correct charging.
As speaker charging continues, the light keeps glowing red or purple. Then battery charging completes when the lamp goes out, or turns blue. This light turns off when the speaker is OFF, and turns blue when it is ON.
The next picture shows the speaker charging while ON. Note the purple light.
The battery recharge cycle finishes when the speaker status lamp turns completely off. Even with the AC charger still present, the lamp does not glow when battery is full. Not unless the speaker is running.
If the speaker is ON when charging finishes, the lamp turns from purple to blue.
When you disconnect from the charger, what was the battery indicator becomes the battery charge left indicator. Well sort of. If it glows blue, then the battery has some amount of play time left, although you cannot tell how much.
But the only indication this light gives about battery status is when the battery hits critically low levels. Then, it starts flashing purple and blue.
