PNY iGo Attache Metal USB 2.0 64 GB flash drive, close up view.
Bought the PNY 64GB flash drive, metal attache iGo version, at Wal Mart some years back, to save a large library of pictures from a laptop computer that we scanned.
First, this device installed without any issues. Then it received copied data as quickly as other high speed USB storage drives. Plus, it is easy to find, plug in, and use. This flash drive accepted over thirty-eight gigabytes of data without producing a single error.
The PNY 64GB flash drive, metal attache model simplifies and provides a highly economical way of sharing data between friends, teachers, bosses, and so on. Almost as cheap as yesterday’s floppy disks and way cheaper than yesteryear’s portable hard disk drives, USB thumb drives like this one from PNY, can be quickly loaded with music, pics / photo, video, documents, spread sheets, or any confidential data you wish, and physically transferred by courier from place to place, just as those sneaker-wearing couriers did three decades ago with floppies (the infamous sneaker net).
Supports USB 2.0, for high speed data moving to and from. We experienced data transfer speeds were as snappy quick as hoped for in a USB 2.0 storage device. We uploaded a 38.7 GB folder to this drive, and the transfer speed averaged around 5.5 megabytes per second and took roughly two hours. Then, we downloaded the same folder from the flash drive back to the computer, at roughly 15 megabytes per second. Took about 1/3 the time to read from the drive as it did to write to it. Slow writing, but fast reading, as expected.
You can place this drive on your key chain for ready access.
Can store media for smart televisions, car stereos, home theater systems, any portable media player that supports USB storage, laptops / notebooks, smart phones, and tablet computers.
The PNY 64GB flash drive, metal attache model works with both Windows and Apple Mac based computers. Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10. MacOS 10.
Device drivers automatically install. No additional CD ROMs or online downloads required. Windows OS based computers immediately recognize this device when plugged into them, and configure themselves with the necessary driver software. Software installation completes in less than 45 seconds.
Comes pre-formatted with the FAT32 file system, for wide-spread compatibility across computers running most any version of Windows or Mac OS. Also means that you do not have to spend any time formatting when you take this drive out of the package; can be a real time saver.
Produces very little heat; so that means very little wasted power. Use this in your battery-powered laptop or notebook computers, without fear that it will significant increase the drain on your batteries. Current draw is nearly non existent.
Given how quickly we outgrow data storage devices these days, it’s useful that PNY offers a limited warranty with this product, that seems to adequately the typical period of time that this thumb drive remains useful.

to be installed when employing on a Windows based computer.
Data stored herein are not easily erased or corrupted by exposure to magnetic fields; unlike floppies or data tapes.
Thumb drives in general are rather small in size, and so, can be easily misplaced. However, the PNY 64GB flash drive, metal attache version has an opening in the connector cover. Through this, you thread a lanyard or other form of necklace or string, or a key chain. Plus, it is bigger than SDHC memory cards, and way larger than MicroSD memory chips, which are really too small to be accurately referred to as, “cards.”
Longer and thicker than the SD (Secure Digital) family of memory cards, and so, is more difficult to lose.
Though data transfer speeds may be more limited with this USB device as compared with class 10 and higher SD cards, PNY flash drives are nonetheless well-suited for archival data storage, and are plenty fast enough for streaming audio and most video content.
Easily replaced with a bigger USB drive when additional storage is required. This is owing to the USB standard itself and the high degree of interoperability and interchanging of devices that conform to the USB standards. For this reason et al, USB thumb drives have become nearly ubiquitous in so many Information Technology applications.
The metal from which the exterior of this flash drive is constructed is quite thin; not much thicker than aluminum foil. It’s easily bent; though it does provide added electrical shielding.
Gives no indication when receiving or transmitting data. We like to see such a lamp flickering, to reassure ourselves that long copy operations, for example, have not stalled or hung.
The body of this PNY thumb drive spans significantly more than two inches, and when plugged in, protrudes from the USB port almost two inches. So, care should be taken not to move the host computer with this USB drive plugged in, as it would be easy to snap off or otherwise damage this drive or the USB port, if you pass too close by a wall or corner while carrying the computer.
This particular model does not support USB 3.0 transfer speeds, although PNY does offer flash drives that do, in their Turbo line of storage products.
Next, unlike the PNY Attaché 16 GB Plastic Case Flash Drive we reviewed a while back, this more expensive unit does not come with an integrated dust cover to protect the terminals inside the USB port.
Finally, it’s not unusual for any data storage manufacturer to limit liability in this way. Indeed few, if any, offer free protection against data mutilation.
They priced this line of high speed flash drives on the cheap side, and is available at Best Buy, Staples, Amazon.com, and other brick and online retail outlets. Price variability is large for this product across retailers in our experience, anything from $8 to $20. So by all means, shop around. With faster speeds, higher storage capacity, and notably superior durability, why would you not seek to replace your older disc storage mediums with portable solid state storage like this one from PNY? We thus, rate the PNY 64GB flash drive at 96 out of 100 overall.
