You charge the Sony SRS XB41 via the barrel style DC port. This gives the fastest charging. Or you can chare via the slower micro USB port. Furthermore, to get the quickest USB charge time, use a medium to full current USB charger. But for the quickest charge, use the charger that comes with the unit. Why? Because that one charges at a much faster rate than does USB. Details follow.

Sony SRS XB41 Charge Time: How Long to Fully Recharge

According to the specs, the time to fully charge is eight (8.0) hours. This is using a 5 volt, 1.5 amp, 7.5 watt charger or greater. Furthermore, with the included 5 volts, 3 amps, 15 watt charger, the XB41 recharges fully in five (5) hours. This is the charger with the barrel plug.

How Long the XB41 Plays on a Full Charge

On a complete charge, the 41 can play for up to twenty-four (24) hours.

But when you play it loudly, especially with booming bass, you will indeed see much shorter playing times per recharge. We see this speaker die in around eight hours when we play at louder volume. So to get the longest playing time per recharge, power saving is useful. Just play it only as loudly as you need to, to hear it well throughout your listening space.

The Play Time Gets Shorter as the XB41 Ages

Finally, if you own the 41 over a few years, you may see the playtime per charge drop with age. This is normal for devices like this one, that rely on lithium ion batteries.

But by deep cycling the battery now and then, you can slow this charge capacity decrease. So to exercise the XB41, run the battery fully dead, and then recharge it again every three to six months.

Also, we advise that you avoid leaving the 41 connected to a charger once it reaches full charge. Right after the charging lamp goes out, unplug it as soon as you can. Doing so avoids possibly overcharging it and aging the battery early.
