Staples USB 2,0 Stick Drive, 64 GB, Front View, Close Up.
Bought the Staples USB 2 stick drive 64GB version, at Staples® of course, to create a recovery drive for a new laptop computer. Here we review the pros and cons of this thumb drive that we ran into in this effort.
This stick drive installed without any problems, received copied data as quickly as other high speed USB storage drives we’re used to playing with, and is easy to locate, plug in, and use. The drive accepted over sixteen gigabytes of recovery file system data without producing any errors whatsoever.
This Staples® stick drive simplifies and provides a highly economical way of sharing data . At just $8, it’s almost as cheap as yesterday’s CD ROM disks. Plus, it’s way cheaper than yesteryear’s portable hard disk drives.
USB drives like this one, are quickly loaded with music, pics / photo, video, documents, spread sheets, or any confidential data you wish. Then, you can carry it from place to place. Just as those sneaker-wearing couriers did three decades ago with floppies (the infamous sneaker net).
Supports USB 2.0, for high speed data moving to and from. We experienced data transfer speeds were as snappy quick as hoped for in a USB 2.0 storage device.
Can store media for smart televisions, car stereos, home theater systems, any portable media player that supports USB storage, laptops / notebooks, smart phones, and tablet computers.
Works with both Windows and Apple Mac based computers. Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10. MacOS 10.
No additional CD ROMs or online downloads required. Windows OS based computers immediately recognize this device when plugged into them, and configure themselves with the necessary driver software. Software installation completes in less than 45 seconds.
This lamp shows when data are being read and written to this USB stick.
Comes pre-formatted for wide-spread compatibility across computers running most any version of Windows, Linux, or Mac OS. Also means that you do not have to spend any time formatting when you take this stick out of the package; can be a real time saver.
Produces very little heat; so that means very little wasted power. Use this in your battery-powered laptop or notebook computers, without fear that it will significant increase the drain on your batteries. Current draw is nearly non existent.
Given how quickly we outgrow data storage devices these days, it’s useful that Staples® offers such a warranty with this stick drive, that covers the typical period of time that this thumb drive will likely remain useful.

No drivers or other software needed to use this flash drive on a Windows based computer.
Data stored herein are not easily erased or corrupted by exposure to magnetic fields; unlike floppies or data tapes.
Stick drives in general are rather small in size, and so, can be easily misplaced. But this Staples® storage drive is bigger than SDHC memory cards. So it’s way larger than MicroSD memory chips. No matter though. Why? Because MicroSD chips are really too small to be called, “cards.” The Staples thumb drive on the other hand, is hard to misplace
Longer and thicker than the SD (Secure Digital) family of memory cards, and so, is more difficult to lose.
Though data speeds are slower with this USB device than with class 10 and higher SD cards, this drive is still plenty fast. So they are well-suited for archival data storage as well as for streaming audio and most video content.
A plastic cover slides down over the USB connector. When slid into the open position, it locks into place for easier plug-in.
Easily replaced with a bigger USB drive when you need more storage. This is owing to the USB standard itself. For this reason et al, USB thumb drives have become nearly ubiquitous in so many Information Technology applications.
The body of this Staples® stick drive spans more than two inches. So when plugged in, it sticks out from the USB port almost two inches. Thus, take care not to move the host computer with this USB drive plugged in. Doing so could easily snap off this drive or the USB port on the computer.
This model does not support USB 3.0 speeds. But still works in USB 3.0 ports. You just won’t see USB 3.0 speeds.
Not unusual for any data storage manufacturer to limit liability in this way. Few, if any, offer free protection against data mutilation.
This Staples® line of high speed stick drives is priced on the cheap side at $8 per copy. It is available at Staples® stores, nationwide.
It offers faster speeds, higher storage capacity, and long lasting storage. So why would you not seek to replace your older disc storage mediums with portable solid state storage like this? We thus rate this stick drive at 97 out of 100.
