When the UE Wonderboom Won’t Turn OFF, this likely means one or more things as follows.
UE Wonderboom Won’t Turn OFF: Causes and Fixes
-
- Try to forcibly shut down the unit. Do this by pressing the Volume Up and DOWN and Pairing buttons, all at the same time. Hold a second then release. The unit normally shuts OFF. Then press the Power button to start it again. But if the forced shut down doesn’t work, then move on to the next solution.
- The UE Wonderboom needs a reset. The running programs inside could be in a corrupt state, which resetting often fixes. So try a reset, described below.
- If the reset does not work, then try just letting the battery drain until it completely dies. Disconnect the charger and set the unit aside until all lights go dark. Then charge it and turn it ON again. Check to see then if it turns OFF. If not, then proceed to the next steps.
- Your charger cord or adapter itself is faulty. So try swapping in a working charger and cord for the suspected bad one. The speaker may boot correctly once again.
- The button mechanisms may have sand, dirt, or other debris in them. To repair this, you’ll have to take the unit apart since the innards of these buttons are not accessible from outside. Then blow, brush, or polish the switch contacts.
- The battery inside no longer recharges due to age, excessive charging, or heavy use. To resolve this, replace the battery. Again, this requires disassembling the UE Wonderboom.
- Your unit is defective. In this case, get a replacement unit.
UE Wonderboom Won’t Turn OFF: Reset May Fix
Be Sure the UE is Not Paired with Anything Prior to Reset
The unit may not answer to the reset command while connected with a source Bluetooth device. So disconnect it before resetting. Since you can’t turn turn the speaker OFF at this point then turn OFF Bluetooth on the device to which the unit is paired. This will break the connection, which it is best to do prior to resetting.
Press the Power and the Volume DOWN Button Together for Five to Eight Seconds
Find the Power and Volume DOWN buttons. The Power button is on the top of the speaker, near the front. Volume DOWN is the long plum line on the front, near the bottom. See these both pointed out by the green arrows in the next picture.
The UE then enters reset. Within a couple seconds, the unit switches off. Next, the falling electronic ker-plunk sound plays. Then the lamp in the Power button goes dark.
After reset, the unit comes up in ready-to-connect mode, with the Pairing lamp rapidly flashing white.
