How to Check Battery on Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2

Covers how to check how full the battery is on the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 Bluetooth speaker, and also, how to know if the battery life is shortening over time.

How to Check Battery on Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2

1. First, Turn ON the Speaker

You won’t be able to read battery charge status unless the speaker is ON.

To turn on the speaker, press and release the Power button, pointed at by the yellow arrow last picture.

The little lamp in that button should then come on, and the speaker should make its startup sound.  If it does not, then the battery could be completely dead.

But as long as there’s some juice in the battery, the speaker should power up.  When it does, move on to the next step.

2. Press and Release the Volume UP and Volume DOWN Buttons Together to Check Battery Status

Press and release the center areas of the Volume UP and Volume DOWN buttons at the same time.  Find these areas circled in yellow, in the next picture.

Front view of the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 speaker, showing the -Volume UP- and -Volume DOWN- buttons circled.

When you press these buttons together, the speaker makes one to four “blunk” sounds to tell you how full the battery is.  Four blunks means that the battery has between 75 and 100 percent charge.  Three blunks means that the battery has between 50 and 75 percent charge.  Two blunks says that you have between 25 and 50 percent charge in the speaker’s battery.  And finally, one blunk means between 0 and 25 percent charge.

Also, when the battery gets critically low, the Power lamp starts flashing red.

Press these buttons any time the speaker is ON, to check how full the battery is.  The number of blunks you hear, lets you roughly guess how much time you have left to play the speaker, before it goes dead.  Now a fully charged Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 plays for roughly thirteen hours.  So four blunks means that the speaker has between 9.75 and 13 hours of play time left before it goes dead.  Three blunks means that it will play for another 6.5 to 9.75 hours.  Two blunks means between 3.25 and 6.5 hours of music time left.  And 1 blunk means that you’ll get between 0 and 3.5 more hours of play time.

How to Check Battery Condition on the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2

When the speaker is new, and using a full power USB charger, the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 charge time is 2.6 hours to reach a full charge.

And, the fully charged battery should last for around 13 hours of play time before going dead.

A sign of a bad battery, is that it goes dead too fast, or takes too little or too much time to fully charge. So if you fully charge your speaker, but it only plays for under ten hours before dying, its battery may be bad, and unable to hold a full charge anymore.

If the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 battery takes longer than three hours to completely recharge, this could also mean a failing battery.  It could mean too that the charger you’re using is not strong enough to recharge the speaker in the specified charge time of 2.6 hours.

Also, slow charging can happen because your charge cord is too thin.  So for best results, we suggest using a full-current USB 2.0 cable (one that easily carries 2.1 amps).
