Covers the JBL Clip 2 Firmware Software Update Instructions.
But, we know of no way to upgrade the software. Moreover, we find no firmware downloads for the Clip 2 on the JBL web site. Nor do they give any details for how to do this in the manuals.
So it seems that JBL feels that the Clip 2 works well enough with the original firmware. Thus they chose not to provide a (perhaps) confusing and complicated firmware update routine.
Indeed, in our tests, the speaker is highly reliable. That is, we’ve not seen any bugs, lost connections, distortion, or anything else bad.
We find the battery life to be within spec. The unit never cuts out as long as we stay in range. No stuttering or erratic button behavior. The volume controls always work. It never locks up or crashes. Nor does it ever draw too much charging current. Plus, we’ve had ours for several years now. And the battery still lasts about as long per charge as it did the day we bought the Clip 2. Thus it does appear that this speaker works very well, with no firmware updates.
So firmware updating is likely not necessary. And as far as we can tell, this is impossible for the average consumer to perform. It may be that the Clip 2 they deemed too inexpensive to worry about updating. We consider this an entry level speaker. So it may be a teaser, to whet people’s appetites for higher grade JBL models. And it does a pretty good job at that too.
