Covers the Sony SRS XB13 Extra Bass wireless speaker firmware update directions. Unfortunately though, we know of no way to upgrade the software on this mini speaker. Further, there are currently no firmware downloads given for it on the Sony web site. Nor are any details for this effort in the included manuals.
So apparently, Sony feels that the speaker works well with the fresh-out-of-box firmware. Thus, they did not include a (perhaps) risky and confusing update routine for such a low priced speaker.
Furthermore, in our tests, the XB13 is quite reliable with the firmware it comes with. I.e. We see no bugs, lost connections, distortion, or anything else bad. So firmware updating is probably unnecessary, and as far as we can tell, impossible for the average consumer to perform.
Finally, a no-update option makes the XB 13 even easier to use for the tech challenged person. And it’s good to see a speaker that just works, right out of the box, and will likely never need updates to fix issues. So if that’s the sort of hassle-free operation you’re looking for in a Bluetooth speaker, then the XB13 is the speaker for you. It’s a virtually zero-service unit, and the only maintenance it needs is to keep it clean and to exercise the battery periodically.
