Use these Charge 3 restart instructions to help correct some unusual symptoms that your JBL Charge 3 Bluetooth speaker may experience from time to time.
Also not that RESTARTING the Charge 3 speaker differs from RESETTING it back to factory settings. By restarting, we mean just rebooting this JBL 3.
But resetting does much more than simply restarting. More precisely, resetting erases any stored Bluetooth settings, previously paired devices, and any other user specific data in the Charge 3. Thus, resetting this Bluetooth speaker, as opposed to restarting it, needs more work afterwards to get it back up and running.
Therefore, do avoid confusing the words restart and reset. Recovering from a speaker reset is not terribly hard in this case however. All you have to do, is re pair any devices to it manually for the first time after reset. Why? Because after a speaker reset, any memorized Bluetooth speaker entries for this unit on your mobile devices will no longer work. So you need to establish new, valid pairings.
The JBL Charge 3 speaker indeed sports a Power ON / OFF button. So, you restart these Bluetooth speakers by pressing and holding the Power button until the lights on the speaker go off. Then, once the speaker powers down, press and release the Power button once more. Then, when the Charge 3 finishes starting up, and the lamp in the Power button flashes slowly blue or white, then successful Charge 3 restart is finished.
In rare cases, pressing the power button may not shut off the Charge 3. The speaker may freeze or lock up while powered up. In that case, disconnect the charging cable if charging your Charge 3, and allow the speaker to run until the battery goes dead. When the internal battery drains completely, this effectively powers down the Charge 3.
Then, once all lights on the Charge 3 go dark, including the power button and battery gauge lamps, connect the speaker to a charger again. See some of the Charge 3 lights shown in the previous pictures. They’ll all go out when the battery runs down to complete discharge.
Then wait for perhaps fifteen minutes until you build up a bit of charge in the battery once more. At that point, you can try powering up the speaker again. Hopefully, any erratic behavior from the speaker that prompted you to restart it, has now disappeared.
