JBL Clip 3 portable speaker package, unpacked, showing its contents.
Here, we explain how to know if the JBL Clip 3 speaker is fully charged. A full charge gets you maximum playing time from it when you take it around outside. But though the unit has no battery readout per se, you can still tell if the battery is full by observing the speaker status lamp as it recharges. Unfortunately though, we know of no way to check if the battery actually has full charge without using a charging adapter and USB cable.
Now the Clip 3 JBL Bluetooth speaker has a single LED on the top of the unit, as we see in the following pictures. This displays battery status, whether it’s draining or charging, or whether it’s critically low or not when discharging.
But this lamp does not show charging progress. E.g. How full the battery is at a given time while charging. Nor does it show how much power remains in the battery when discharging. But this light does change color when the battery reaches near-dead state.
When you power down the Clip 3 with no charger, this lamp, that also doubles as a pilot light, goes dark. Also, with the charger connected, this LED is also dark when the battery reaches full charge status, as shown next.
The status lamp lights up red (no flashing) while the speaker charges, as we show in the next photo. Here, the glowing light is the only visual means to know that charging is happening. For sure, the battery is not yet full as long as this lamp glows red.
