Describes how to read the JBL Clip 4 charging light LED. This gives some indication of charging status.
JBL Clip 4 Charging Light: How to Read It
This model has a single LED on its top panel, under the carabiner clip. This displays charging status, whether it’s draining or charging, or whether it’s critically low or not when discharging. However, this light does not tell you the charging progress in terms of percentages. Nor does it say how much “juice” the unit has left. But it does change color when the remaining charge nears deadness.
1. The JBL Clip 4 Charging Light is OFF
When you power down the Clip 4 with no charger supplying current, this light goes dark. It is also OFF when the charger IS working but the unit is already at full charge.

2. JBL Clip 4 Charging Light Shows Recharging Progress
The charging light glows red (no flashing) while the speaker charges. On Clip 4, the glowing light is the only visual indication that charging is going on. But as noted earlier, it does not display how far along the charging is.

Note also that this lamp blinks red when the speaker is low. So, you should recharge it next time you can. It only flashes red when the unit is nearly dead, with no charger present. But when you connect a charger, this red flashing turns to a steady red glow. Thus, this light never flashes red while the speaker charges.
3. When the Charging Light Goes Out While Recharging, Then Charging is Complete
As speaker charging continues, the light keeps glowing red. Then charging is complete when the lamp goes out, or turns white. It turn off when the speaker is not ON, and turns white when it is ON.
The recharge cycle finishes when the speaker status lamp turns off. Even with the AC charger, the lamp does not glow when Clip 4 is full, unless the 4 itself is running. And in that case, it would glow or flash white.
4. The JBL Clip 4 Charging Light Is Not Much of a Charge Remaining Meter
When unplugged from the charger, what was the Charging Light becomes the charge left indicator. Well sort of. If it glows white, then the unit has some amount of play time left, although you cannot tell how much.
The next picture shows a Clip 4, powered ON, with the charging light glowing solid white. Note though that this light blinks white when the speaker has no pairing.

This light gives very few status patterns when not charging. In fact, then only one is when the Clip 4 is nearly dead. Then, it starts flashing red.
