Sony XB 41 Watts Output

The XB 41 Sony Bluetooth speaker is a small to medium power, desktop style unit with plenty of output watts to fill a typical room with full sounding tunes.

But what do the watts a Bluetooth speaker has tell you about it?  Firstly, the watt is a measure of the amount of  power the speaker draws and outputs.  Plus, this metric is a handy comparison measure. E.g. Typically, speakers with more watts output tend to play louder than those with less.  The ones with greater power cost more, have bigger batteries and chargers, along with larger drivers.  They offer greater dynamic range, have a deeper bass response, and stereo versions and offer a bigger soundstage to listeners.

Thus in general, the more powerful the speaker, the better it sounds, even at low volume. You get better clarity due to higher accuracy reproduction of the bass, midrange, and treble portions of the music. More extra watts could produce less clipping distortion as well. So, the speaker’s output power figure is a primary indicator of speaker quality and performance, and as such, is of great interest to audiophiles and novice listeners alike.

In this case, the Sony XB 41, as a battery powered BT speaker, is a moderately hefty model for its size.  Its watts can fill a small to mid size room with music. See below for details on its power output.

Notes on Sony XB 41 Watts Output

    1. The system tries to conserve battery power as the battery get close to total depletion.  The speaker does this by rolling off the audio output power somewhat.
    2. The XB 41 may not input enough enough power from a USB-A power adapter to keep the battery from discharging when playing at full volume, depending on what you’re playing on it and the sort of charger you have.  So it could be that even with the unit externally powered, you could still run the battery dead.  Thus on the (rare) occasions that this occurs, just stop playing the 41 for an hour or two, to let it build up some reserve power while charging. Then, fire it up again for continued party enjoyment. Or, if this happens very often, use the included adapter (15 watt) or equivalent, for fastest and most reliable charging.
