How to Hard Reset JBL Flip

We discuss here how to hard reset the  JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker to its default settings. Hard resetting restores the unit to default state. It also erases any earlier paired Bluetooth devices from its memory. Plus, this stops the Flip from pairing to any nearby Bluetooth devices afterwards. Also, you might reset to clear up pairing and streaming errors, or to get the speaker ready for sale or re gifting, or simply to stop it from pairing with devices you no longer wish it to pair with.

How to Hard Reset the JBL Flip

1. Turn on the Speaker

Press and hold the Power button until it lights up.

In our case, since we’ve paired the speaker with Bluetooth devices since the last reset, the Flip does not enter Bluetooth discovery mode. We know that because the Power button slow blinks blue, on and off.

2. Wait for the Power Up Sound

The Flip makes a couple short beeps when it powers up. The unit is then ready for use after this sound ends.

3. Press the Volume DOWN and Power Buttons Together

See the next picture to find the Power and  Volume DOWN buttons.  They are the rightmost two buttons in the row of buttons located right on the cloth grill.

The JBL Flip then runs its hard reset routine, as the next picture shows. Note that the Power button lights solid blue for a second or two during reset.

Then after a short pause, the speaker shuts off. All the lights go out. This model makes no sound upon power down.

Next, power on the Flip again, as we detail in step 1 above.  In short: Press and release the Power button.

Now this time, after hard reset, our speaker comes up in Bluetooth pairing mode, as we see next. Note that the Power button blinks blue and red to denote this. Moreover, when it blinks, the Flip is not currently paired. indeed, we expect it not to pair to anything after a reset.

5. Done with How to Hard Reset JBL Flip !

The hard reset is now complete. So you may now pack it up for sale, or pair it again with your favorite Bluetooth devices.

Note that the speaker will no longer automatically connect with any previously paired Bluetooth device that is in range and in pairing more. So to restore automatic pairing, first manually pair the Flip with a device like a phone or tablet. Then, any time that both speaker and that device have Bluetooth turned on, pairing with automatically take place once more.
