JBL Boombox 2 Bass Boost

You cannot control how loud the bass is on the JBL Boombox 2, by toggling its bass boost option. This setting was available on the Boombox 1. But it does not seem to work on this speaker.

But back in the day, bass boost made the passive radiators vibrate more.  Plus it added a low rumble quality to the playing program. Furthermore, you got a bit more treble too.

However, they didn’t remove bass boost though.  It just no longer appears possible to turn it OFF on this speaker.  Nonetheless, you can still increase the bass by using the audio equalizer now present in the JBL Portable app.  And there’s far less risk of destroying the speaker by doing it as follows.

JBL Boombox 2 Bass Boost Using Equalizer in the Portable App

You can adjust how much bass this speaker puts out from the speaker’s Home page in the JBL Portable app.  We show this page with the three slider controls for Bass, Mid, and Treble.

Now for maximum bass boost, move the bass control all the way up to the top of its range. Then move the other two controls all the way down to the bottom of their ranges.

JBL Boombox 2 Bass Boost Using Buttons on the Speaker

How it worked on other speakers we detail next. And if this speaker had worked like those, you could toggle bass boost OFF and ON as follows. So by default, the JBL Boombox 2 would have bass boost ON after reset.  So if your speaker is new, or you have just reset it, then bass boost would already be active.

Find these buttons on the top of the speaker, as shown in the last picture. The Volume Down button is the second button in from the left on the buttons panel. It’s just right of the PartyBoost button. The Pairing button is in the little island in the center top, just to the right of the Power button.

But if you’re missing some bass, then perhaps someone turned OFF bass boost without you knowing.  So you can try turning it ON as follows. Press the Volume Down (-) and Bluetooth Pairing buttons.

Hold them in for around ten seconds, until oval shape ring lights up. Finally, release them.

To turn bass boost back to what it was before, then again,, press the Volume Down and Pairing buttons. Then hold them in until the Power and Pairing buttons and the oval ring around them light up.  Then release them.  When this occurs, bass boost goes back to what it was once more.

Warning

The drivers really rock when you switch on bass boost.  So use caution in how loudly you play the JBL Boombox 2 with the extra bass. This way, you’ll avoid damaging the speaker drivers inside. If the bass is crackling, tapping, or otherwise distorting, turn it down !  Plus, less bass means longer battery life per charge as well.
