The Clip 3 JBL Bluetooth speaker has a single LED on its top panel, under the carabiner clip, as shown in the following pictures . This displays battery status, whether it’s draining or charging, or whether it’s critically low or not when discharging. However, it does not tell you the charging progress, or how full the battery is at a given time while charging. Nor does it show how much “juice” the battery has left when discharging, although as mentioned, it does change color when the battery reaches near-dead state. In this piece, we describe how to read the JBL Clip 3 battery status and charging indicator lamp on this speaker.
How to Read the JBL Clip 3 Battery Indicator Lights
1. The Battery Indicator Lamp is OFF
When you power down the Clip 3 with no charger connected, this lamp, that also doubles as a pilot light, is dark, as shown next. The lamp is also dark when the charger IS connected but the battery finished charging to full.

2. JBL Clip 3 Charging Indicator Shows Battery Recharging Progress
The status lamp lights up red (no flashing) while the speaker charges, as shown in the next picture. On this speaker, the glowing light is the only visual indication that charging is going on. But it does not display how far along the charging is.
Note that this lamp blinks red when the battery is critically low and should be recharged immediately. It only flashes red like this when the battery is nearly dead and AC power has not yet been connected. When you apply adequate USB power, this red flashing light turns to a solid red. Also note that this light never flashes red while charging is happening.
3. When the Light Goes Out While Charging, Then Charging is Done
As speaker charging continues, the light keeps glowing red, Battery charging is done when The lamp goes out, or turns white. It turn off when the speaker is not ON, and turns white when it is ON.
This next picture shows the speaker during charge cycle. Note the red light.

The battery recharge cycle finishes when the speaker status lamp turns off, as shown next. Even with the AC charger still connected, the lamp does not glow when battery is full, unless the speaker itself is turned on.

4. The JBL Clip 3 Charging Indicator Is Not Much of a Battery Charge Remaining Meter
When unplugged from the charger, what was the charging indicator becomes the battery charge left indicator. Well sort of. If it glows white, then the battery has some amount of play time left, although you cannot tell how much.
The next picture shows a JBL Clip 3, powered ON, with the battery status lamp glowing solid white. Note though that this light blinks white when the speaker is not paired.

But the only indication this light gives about battery status when not charging, is when the battery reaches a critically low level. Then, it starts flashing red, as shown next.
