We explain how to turn on the Sony SRS XB31 Bluetooth speaker here. Now most wireless speakers like this one, have a Power button that Sony prominently places on the unit so it’s easy to find. Indeed, this speaker is no exception to this, as we find its Power button on top, as we see next.
There’s also the Power lamp, just above the Power-Pairing button, that starts glowing white when the speaker boots, as we point out next.
This lamp is dark when the SRS XB31 is OFF, as seen above.
There’s also the Bluetooth status light, that blinks or glows steady blue when the XB31 is running.
How to Turn On Sony SRS XB31
To power up the SRS XB31, press the Power button. Then release after a quarter second or so. Also, you needn’t hold it in for long for the unit to see your press and then power itself up.
When the speaker comes on, the Bluetooth status lamp starts blinking or glowing, and the unit may or may not make a beep sound. It will sound a ding-dong sort of beep pattern if it pairs to a nearby Bluetooth device. But if it pairs with nothing, then it makes no sound.
But if pressing the Power button does not turn on the SRS XB31, or if the CHARGE light blinks orange, it could be that you have to recharge your speaker.
So if the unit won’t activate, try attaching a USB charger. Yes, you can indeed play the speaker while it charges.
Now with a charger supplying power, this speaker should always power on when you click the Power button. If not, then the unit may not be getting any electricity from your AC adapter. So check that the receptacle for the power supply is live, that the adapter works, that the cable between it and the SRS XB31 is neither cut nor frayed, and that the charger plug fully seats in the speaker’s micro USB port.
But if after all these checks the speaker still does not turn on, then the unit itself may be hosed. So in that case, get a new one.
